UEFA Champions League/Europa League 5/6/7 March *** Spoilers ***

In the split second that the ref and linesmen has it looks like he has almost pushed him away with his foot. so it is a red.

Watching back now it isn't but this happens, Kompany red card was the same v utd in FACup and v Arsenal this year. Similar situations.

What I cant understand is after red cards like this there is 30-40 secs of arguing so surely the fourth official can watch it back and inform the ref if it is or isn't.

Retired referee Dermot Gallagher on BBC Radio 5 live: "[The decision was] harsh to say the least but in fairness the Real player did Nani no favours whatsoever. At worst Nani catches the underside of his arm, certainly not the ribs as the guy has gone down and shown.

"I can't reiterate enough that he [Nani] is watching the ball over his shoulder, there was no malice in him. At worst it was a yellow for dangerous play, but if I was refereeing that game I cannot see what stretch of the imagination where I would have sent him off for that."

So you're only allowed an opinion if you post in here regularly.

Great. Would expect nothing else from a united fan after being on the end of a bad decision.
I'm sure I wouldn't need to look for long at you gloating about Liverpool losing.

Surely Rio has to get some sort of punishment for the huge clapping in the ref's face at the end.

They could throw the book at him, ban him from playing in Europe for the rest of his career and it would have still been worth it

I thought the Rio flapping in the refs face was pretty hilarious.

Stupid and classless but still hilarious :D

Thought that was hilarious, but the ref could easily have booked him if he was in a really bad mood!

Probably just wanted to get off the pitch and avoid getting more hassle from the players surrounding him had he brandished another card after the final whistle, I suspect UEFA can act on events after the final whistle should they choose (e.g. Ince and Caulker(?) after the U21 qualifier)

To be fair a retrospective yellow would probably be sufficient but seeing as their European season is over it would be a bit pointless, so they may opt for the fining him 5mins wages option.

Considering there is clear as day contact on his ribs, and he merely follows through and also kicks his arm, Gallagher's opinion is thus invalidated, as we've all suspected, he's clearly blind.

Rio's clapping was as said, hilarious, stupid but hilarious, though I fail to see what can be classless about a clap, I was pretty surprised the ref didn't book him. I actually thought all through the leaving the pitch stuff that Fergie and the team showing their anger at the ref would on looking at replays in the dressing room, pretty quickly turn into everyone having a turn to kick Nani.
