SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

Following the games development, a little, I did not think of this one to be too similar in continuity with the series (maybe a bit like Civ V to Civ IV - still a good game but kinda different) but, perhaps, a more streamlined (dumbed down) "The Sims" / social media interaction, with lots and lots of paid for type DLC.
I have still paid for it, and perhaps I'll be disappointed but if I only play it for a fraction of the time that I lived on the previous titles it should be ok, I hope.

but the user reviews on the above link for Metacritic are quite bad, with the DRM, city size, game simplicity, and server overloading being noted in many of the criticisms.
More people need to vote with their wallet.
I enjoyed the previous sim cities a lot, but i refuse to purchase a single player game that requires me to be logged in to play especially with the price of the game and DLC.
Purchased far too many games due to the previous ones in the franchise being good to be sorely disappointed.
Loved Mass effect 1+2 wont purchase 3 till its on a deal with ALL the DLC.
Loved BF2 decided to wait for the hype to go with BF3, still have not purchased and its unlikely i will.
Won't be purchasing Dead Space 3 by the sounds of it.
and the list continues on.
I did purchase Diablo 3 though and wish i had not of.

I thought it was / is a cracking game, in fact I've just started playing it again. I agree though, that I will not be buying new games on the strength of the franchise / series anymore and I've made a decision to avoid EA / Ubisoft like the plague.

I think, after reading some reviews and bits and bobs in the thread I'll be giving this a miss.
Shame as Sim City 4 was really good

It is such a shame, as you say SC4 was really good (still is), i hope that the issues are ironed out, or alternative ways to play (using cracks) maybe another way in due course to get around the whole online only play.
I have tried Cities XL 2012 as an alternative, i find it good, don't know if anyone else has played it (whats your thoughts?) - http://store.steampowered.com/app/231140/
i know people are moaning about the DRM, just wait for a crack honestly.

It's interesting in this case as a lot of the game is stored in the cloud. e.g. your cities/regions aren't stored locally I believe.
Yeah I've read quite a few people (US) who've said they've played for a bit come back a couple of hours later for their cities / regions to either not have been saved or just disappeared!

I played a bit last night so I'm sure I'll find out the hard way tonight!
Thankfully I'm a pretty useless player of these sorts of games so a clean slate isn't all that bad

Glad I'm not the only one. For as long as I have played the Sim City or Civ series of games I'm always poo at them. Even though I enjoy them the bigger cities never seem to work out.
I have just started to try out some Paradox games (Victoria II and Crusader Kings II) and whilst initially they seem to impress me it soon ends up like this...
they always say that, i am sure that pirates were able to crack Diablo 3 which is also a server based game.
it has something to do with making a pretend clone server or something, im not got the knowledge myself.
They can run private MMo servers so they can probably run this, it's a challenge no doubt.
I'm waiting to see whether it's worth the hassle as I've enjoyed all the previous Simcity games but nowadays I don't pre-order games, I'd rather wait for mates to take the plunge

someone needs to leak the server code first and even then some are to complicated and resource intensive for a private server.
like the eve-online server source code that runs on a stupidly powerful server cluster
