Which faction's default weapons are bad? I can't think of many - there are 2 default guns I can think of off the top of my head which are not only easily the best guns for their particular class (across all factions) but probably even easily ranked as the best guns in the game. The Trac-5 and the Orion. Then there are quite a few more that aren't exactly much worse than them. There are only a couple of instances where alternatives are hands down the best choice, for the NC the GD-7F over the default AF-19 is just better in every respect as an example. But for the most part alternative guns in this aren't better, they're just specialized to filling CQB/ranged roles over flexibility.

A lot of people still use the default weapons. I still use mine.

Remember that all those weapons that are good in close quarters are terrible at range. Shotguns, unless used in close proximity are useless. SMG's, are ineffective at medium and long range.

There are some very cheap upgrades that you can do with your current weapons. Red-dot, silencer, front grip etc. Then there's stuff like C4, better armour (flak, nano), better shielding etc etc. It's not all down to the weapons.

I'm level 38. I have upgraded my max to dual bursters, 1 with a hacksaw (auto-shotgun), dual falcons (dual anti-vech), flak armour, nano armour etc etc. I've also bought a load of other stuff. You don't need to grind to 50 to get anything.

I think im playing the game wrong then ^_^

Will have a sit down and look through all the upgrade bits, started another character as a different faction to see how much difference there is, but i seem to suck just as much with that as well :p

Pick a gun, and concentrate on pimping it out with certs. It's certs rather than cash-shop purchases that completely change the way a gun handles. Laser sights mean less spread when hip firing, soft point ammo increases damage at medium range, high velocity decreases bullet drop at longer ranges. A compensator damps vertical recoil, a suppressor means everyone doesn't come running when you shoot.

I'd recommend medic to start with, since you get a self heal and a pretty decent range of guns. Reviving downed players and healing people means the certs roll in even if you're actually killing anyone.

You can easily blow your certs on things you just don't need. A lot of the stuff you need costs very little.

The biggest cost will be getting a different gun if you want one. Getting most things to level 4 doesn't cost very much in comparison.

G18241> What is your primary role type? (Heavy/medic etc?), and what is your play style? (Close quarters/mid/far?)

Basic upgrades:

Squad Leader: Mandatory squad beacon.

Medic: Level 4 medic gun upgrade (lev 5 is expensive for not much gain)

Engy: Level 4 engy gun upgrade (lev 5 is expensive for not much gain) and Flak armour

Heavy: Recommend the Nanoweave armour to level 4 (5 if you can afford it) (Other stuff is available).

Light assault: Jet pack upgrades, a shotgun or SMG, and C4.

I hear that NV is indeed recommended, yet to try it myself though.

BTW: press ALT + F to get the frame rate showing. It will display the limiting factor as your CPU or GPU as well.

Default weapons are absolutely fine - for Vanu and NC.

On my NC engineer/HA I use the Gauss-Saw or the mercenary. Sometimes the GD-22s. Battlerank is 27. Mercenary is an amazing starter weapon - versatile and easy to use.

On my Vanu engineer I use the solstice/Pulsar C. As a medic - the standard Pulsar. Battlerank - 45 or something.

If you play medic regularly at all then maxing the medic gun is the best certs you will ever spend. Max rank only costs 500 and lets you res people super fast and with full health. It can really turn the tide of a battle and keep your squad in the game if used well.

Totally agree, but I was pitching it to the gent whom I have no idea what class he primarily plays. I wouldn't suggest getting level 5 if he plays heavy all the time, his certs will be better spent elsewhere.

It's broken in the favour of the user. It isn't effect visually by things that would otherwise effect your aim, jumping, recoil etc... it stays fixed at whatever you aim at, so even though you're still taking the numerical penalties towards aiming associated with those actions by having your viewport and aiming reticule fixed steady makes it much, much easier to aim with.

Unlocked full rank Drifter Jump jets last night, if you are a bit bored with the game I seriously recommend you get these things, they are ****ing hilarious!

I got them in the beta, think they were toned down in release? They are indeed epic! Max altitude bailout you can cover pretty much the entire map :D

Anyone know of any good casual outfits that still have some sort of direction and tactics? I can't play full-time so can't really devote to the 'platoon training' and stuff.

I'm cuRv on Woodman (NC)

and made an alt which I'm loving on Miller, mainly due to the action! which is cuRvv (TR)

So if anyone knows of any that would be great

Prefering infiltrator at the minute, switch to light infantry if needs be. Might switch this out to infiltrator / medic then and see how that takes me :)

Woodman - Fearless Vampire Killers (FVK) for Vanu. Great fun these guys.

Miller - Syndicate (SYND) for NC. Great fun again, but will expect you to stick with the squad/platoon (or get kicked). Which is fair enough.

An absolutely stonking defence of Indar (Woodman) last night by the NC :-D How the combined VS and TR didn't break our cont lock I don't know. A raging battle for at least 2 hours originating at Alkali Mining Supply, and then the last stand position of NS Salvage Yard, which is where the intense fighting took place. We even had to put up with the well-known (but nothing done about) hackers ("Garidian" or something), and people blatantly from the enemy factions spawning NC characters and TK'ing the max's and tanks.

Only a small group of my outfit was on (around 15 guys), and a load of other 'blues'. Lots of command chat. I was proud to be part of 151st that day :-) (I logged at 2:30am-ish after the intense battle had subsided or at least a lull). The strength of a well-honed squad/platoon is not to be underestimated.

To add insult to injury, I logged on this morning to find we'd also capped Amerish overnight lol.

Errol> Try GODS for NC on Woodman. Like FVK (Vanu) they are a gaming community so have thousands of people signed up (Active players I don't actually know).

One of the most intense and engaging battle's I've been part of, was hell of a lot of fun. Not bad considering I was about to have an early night after 3 hours of squad leader training lol.

(BTW.. from FVK we are fond of Chickencurry (or Chickencurries).. he is honourable and a laugh... plus when we first met him many months ago.. we had an hour period where we were not allowed to respawn unless we could think of a curry related pun on comm's before spawning lol).

Sorry but FVK are a joke. They are the massive zerg no skill, no tactic outfit who are also notorious for teamkilling intentionally.

I have never seen such teamkilling on a scale as these idiots do.
