Which Bulbs? (Nightbreaker blew!)

Aaaand another one blown :(

Just had someone at work look at them and say "They don't fit H1's" even though H1's are in...

Does anyone have a confirmed bulb type for the dipped/low beam for a 2004 Honda Civic Sport EP2? Everywhere says something different, its enough to make you scream!! :D

I've got Nightbreakers in my Octavia and Blue Visions in my wife's Astra. The Blue Visions give a much crisper, white light. Only reason I have the Nightbreakers is because they were on offer and got them for £9 :)

Fsir enough mate, was only kidding but will def try Philips over Osram I think! :) I found 1 unblown one from the last set, so will see if that works to tide me over until I can get some new ones ordered! :D

I'd order some more yourself, too, you'll be needing them soon!! :D

I had Nightbreakers years ago, one blew, Osram replaced it and another blew. Ended up replacing again and just let them go in the car when i sold it. The Blue Visions seemed to be (at the time) the most direct competiton for the Osrams so i tried them and they've been brilliant for years..

Halfords super ultra brite 10000....or something liek that :p :D

Seriously though, the Halfords bulbs are usually 2 for 1 so makes them decent value and i think they're excellent.

I'm struggling to remember when I bought my pair of Philips Xtreme, I'm pretty certain I bought them when I lived at my last house and I moved out of there five years ago!

One of them blew last month and the other is still going strong. This is over about 14,000 miles a year.

Exactly so they are cheaper that the Osrams

Not at all, just been down Halfords for some bulbs. £25 for 2x of their 'ultra brilliance' main beams, £30 for 2x of their 'ultra brilliance' dip beams.

Came home, bought Osram Nightbreaker Plus main (H1) and dips (H7) for less than £30 all in and delivered.

FInally got the Osram from my old set back in today at work, dips are H1's, so put that in replacing the faulty one, boom, dips are working, sides are now not! :D I was told one side was on its way out, so I'm gonna just buy new dips, new sides, maybe new main too, just get the whole lot done!

I'm getting osram extra life bulbs these days, H4 lasted 2 years so far, got fed up changing extra bright bulbs every month.

I have had nightbreakers in both of my vehicles for over two years now with no issues.

However.....!

These are old vehicles! One is 30 years old the other 20. As such the voltage regulators on the alternators are designed to produce a pretty much constant voltage.

On modern (And therefore Better! ) vehicles it is common for the voltage output to be controlled by the engine management so it can vary (and go quite high on occasion) depending on conditions.

Since the relationship between bulb life and voltage is a V^-16 one then even a brief period running at only a little over the "Nominal" voltage might have a significantly detrimental effect on bulb life!

This is just thinking off the top of my head BTW, but it would be interesting to know if these bulb life issues are more common on the more modern vehicles (That have perhaps got too clever for their own, and our, good!)

One of my Nightbreaker + from November blew in early Feb; I dropped the Amazon seller a message and he sent me a new one with no fuss. Was unexpected!
