*** The Official Microsoft Surface Pro Thread ***

I have thought about importing one of these, but if I have waited this long I can wait another 4-8 weeks for one. At least then I sell the iPad then. :D

MS just updated their blog to say:

"Surface Pro will be coming to the UK in the coming months" .......months.... MONTHS??? C'mon, this is silly. By the time we get it, at this rate there will be Surface 2 on the horizon.

And more importantly haswell, which could be as early as June. Surface or X-company with a haswell chip inside.

If the Pro had been out by now I would have had one, but given Haswell shouldn't be far away, the lack of drive space and the rumours surrounding possible larger drive models I think they are killing their own market here by leaving it late..

Absolutely, this fiasco seems to be heading for a full12months of self inflicted **** ups. I think we will be looking at second gen stuff before they sort out the issues and before its easy to try and actually buy any tablet.

Not to make excuses but the whole selling computers business is new to them. Even the major OEMs have been laggards and delayed some of their products, so a transitioning software company was always likely to have some difficulties.

I just hope Microsoft are learning from their experiences and that in future the path to getting their products out there will have already been trodden. Only just releasing the Surface RT in some countries is not something they would choose to do.

I expect a new consumer model this year and hopefully the site will be better, we won't have the shipping delays and it will go straight to the high street. Clearly that particular cog in the machine isn't very well greased but I should think the next wave will be smoother.

That doesn't help those wanting a Surface Pro now though, although maybe it's a blessing in disguise if you skip this one.

Getting a Surface Pro very soon with a bit of luck. Someone I know is visiting the States and will grab me one. :)

Missus's bro lives in NYC, he's already said he'll get me one if I want one, I want it for work tho so they'll be paying for it, just eyeing up docking/relicator stations at the mo, anyone tried either the Toshiba Dynadock or the Kensington SD3500V..?

I'm interested to know if there is a technical reason MS havent released over here yet, perhaps a hardware revision or something else, or they simply cant get the units made to meet demand...

Couple of weeks ago I placed an order with MobiCity.co.uk for a Surface Pro 128gb. They seem to be a company with a few overseas warehouses and I noticed they had stocks of Surface Pros. They seem to have imported them from the US, my one was delivered to my parents house today and I'll be picking it up later! Prices are not too bad, Paid about £980 for the 128gb version, which is comparable (and probably cheaper?) to importing one and the website also provide a 1 year warranty. Only problem was that there was a lot of waiting, which, considering I never heard of the company made me think I was being scammed, otherwise I would have posted this sooner. However looks like all is well and I'll let you know what I think of the device when I get it later on today!

So after using this device for half of yesterday and this morning, I'm very impressed!

Boot times are great, 5 seconds to log in, which really defeats the need for standby. Haven't fully run down the battery yet, but it was fully charged this morning and I'm back from annotating 2 lectures on OneNote, and I'm at 66%. So I'd say it goes about 20% an hour, so 5 hours total.

Back does get a bit warm to touch, made my hands a bit sweaty when holding it for a long time, but nothing that is uncomfortable.

Office 2013 is very nice on the tablet, I mucked up my exchange account setup which really mucked up Outlook, so I did a Refresh of the PC which took about 5 minutes and started over with just my Windows Store apps left. Weirdly this was the only time I heard the fan, it got really quite loud when performing the refresh, but it died down quickly to its usual non-existent sound!

I'm really impressed with this as a whole, its leaps and bounds over my ipad, and for that I think the hit on battery life is acceptable, especially since there is rumours they might in the future release a cover that extends the battery. The weight and thickness isn't an issue, all the reviews had me set up for a really heavy machine, but it's not that at all, for what it is it's surprising light and thin. The screen is also amazing, great colour, sharpness and viewing angles, when I went back to my LED BenQ monitor I was very unimpressed. Text in some programs is a bit fuzzy, but I believe this is due to scaling that Windows does and a fix is on the way?

And finally, the type cover is great, just typed up all that on it!

If anyone would like to know anything else just give me a shout :)

Run some games on it and report back please.
WoW if you have/play it would be interesting from my perspective.

Also, a tip I learned from another forum is to replace the MS Intel HD4000 driver with one from the Intel website. It fixes game scaling issues and is much faster.

Don't own WoW, but I've downloaded Portal 2 so I'll let you know how I get on with that.

Thanks for the tip on the drivers, I'll see what that does aswell! Also read that setting the maximum processor state lower than 100% can help battery, I've set my maximum state to 80% so I'll feed back if that makes a difference.

I've played World of tanks and Diablo 3 on mine fine, i have had to turn the graphics down but they still play smoothly!

just trying to find a decent 32gb or 64gb micro sd card for it to install games and run from

Are the keyboards different on the USA vs UK version?

Getting a USA pro but the price on the keyboards is more competitive so could get a UK one if they are different.

The touch cover on my RT definitely has a UK layout with " above 2 and @ and ' to the right of ; and :
The US covers will have a US layout with no £

When I got my pro last week was so excited completely forgot about the keyboard being US until i got back to the hotel,

TBH I can live with it and will probably get a type keyboard if they ever come down in price!

Serious bit of kit though, got the wedge mouse and mini display port to HDMI and DVI leads cheap from the rainforest.

also got a nice incipio case which i haven't seen on the Microsoft UK store website but are on the US store, has a pocket for the mouse, leads, and pen, just a shame the charger doesn't fit!

Just waiting now for the pro to be released here so I can get a spare charger as well.

Thanks for they keyboard info, think I will grab a UK one from eBay or something.

Had the touch cover for my RT and enjoyed but might get the type cover as it might be better for a real PC.

The killer for me with the Pro is the lack of a 3G option (unless I'm missing something). Working in healthcare I needed a tablet that was light and easy to use for community nurses/midwives etc but needed a decent 3G option. Using a dongle just doesn't cut it (some of these folk struggle using a PC at base) and a was all set to get some of these instead of the current preferred toughbooks (at 2-2.5k a pop!!). Guess I'll have to try something else.
