New Pope

There has just been a woman on radio 5 live saying the reason it is raining there now is because the rain is a blessing for the people and the new pope because he has been chosen, really, wtf

It's good to see the numbers fall though, lets see if they have down a different route from the normal coffin dodger out of touch type of pope.

My experience of Catholics and Christians of all denominations, is that they are inherently harmless people with a clear set of morals (whether I agree with them all is another matter, but I know where they are coming from).

In that respect, I don't understand why people are so vitriolically against them?

How epic would it be if he's waving to the crowds and gets hit by another 'miracle' lightning bolt...

Surely you don't have to be religious to be interested in the new leader of 1,000,000,000 people?

Especially with the impact religion has on the world?

Indeed. The Catholic church are still a powerful organisation. If a complete loon is elected it'll be bad for everyone.

I can't wait for this new Pope to tackle the issues of condom use in Africa to combat HIV, supporting gay marriage, and rooting out pedophiles within the Church....

Bahahaha.

You would have thought in this day and age that the vote could simply have been done online.

It's the Catholic Church, why do anything simply when you can do it by spending more money than the GDP of several small African nations combined? I mean it's not like they are a charitable organisation or anything.

Oh wait.

Who gives a ****, I mean really.
Who actually gives a flying ****? Why is so much of the news devoted to who becomes king of the paedos?

Why is this so important that it requires live updates on all news networks?

Some comment from the BBC live blog:

"I pray the new Pope will be as active as the old ones, involving himself in all the issues i.e. the youth"

Have they learned nothing?!?

Because it doesn't happen very often and affects millions of people. Same reason we get live updates when there's an earthquake the other side of the globe.
