SimCity buy or no buy?

I don't buy EA games at all anymore. I used to buy the odd one on merit, but ever since they've started closing down authentication servers when they release newer versions, I've been fairly disheartened to spend any money on anything that comes from em.

Yeah this has been fully offline pirated with 'LAN and support for hosting servers being worked on'. Works 100% better than the real thing according to many other dodgy forums.

I would never condone stealing anything though.

To be fair, its not as bad as some people make out - its decent. I was hesitant but thought I'd give it a try and I think its quite good. Only had a few city rollback (server) issues, but other than that... fine.

You will find a lot of those complaining about servers were right on release day comments or even trying to get on the game before it was enabled in the UK.

I think its fine, my opinion - give it a go.

The £17 i paid for it from nextworld.in makes the problems seem ok. BUT i wouldnt pay a penny more for it. Its a shame that the servers arent stable and there are problems with cities syncing properly even after a week to fix them .

I was considering it even after all the server issues but more and more stories keep coming out about issues the game has such as sims not really living anywhere specifically or working anywhere specifically. They literally just drive to the nearest job and do it if it hasn't been taken and they go to the nearest house after work and claim it. This might not have been such an issue if it werent for the fact that the promotional material released pre-release made big claims about the simulation aspect. That coupled with the congestion issues that plague the game mean that I will not be purchasing it soon if ever.

It's a work in progress, but very glad I jumped in early. Great game once it gets itself sorted.

Up to you whether you can put up with it like this. I you buy FM every year on release, I'd say yes, nowt worse than dealing with that crappy product, at least maxis hasn't had 5 years to sort it.

Been playing this since friday and what is killing the game for me is what has already been said earlier in the thread,

All the sims are mindless drones that go to the first available house, job, etc and because of this there is no way to build a working city as the traffic builds up in the same way non stop, unless you build a never ending curved road with no intersections, so much for creativity.

go and read the Simcity reddit and you can find all this information and more about why this game in its current state is a total sack of ****

I have just lost 25mins work on a city because 'your city is not processing properly' roll back. This is due to the online save function not working as well as a local auto-save function.

Really pee'd at the moment.

Yeah, it's not like there's a way around it with one way streets or building bridges over existing roads like you could do in older SimCitys...

I'm getting fed up of epic jams everywhere stopping the emergency services. I spend most of my time demolishing buildings that have burnt down or been abandoned due to crime...

What is the reason for this? To keep the minimum specs lowers?

I think its for the multi player element, they don't really want you to be able to have one big city with everything, they want you to have to specialise in certain areas and then work with other cities in the area. This can still be done if you're playing solo, you'd just have to create several cities together.

Its not a terrible idea in fairness, but I still find the cities a bit small even for this, especially if you pick an area with water taking up some of the valuable build space
