Why is there so much love for Torres by the way ? I've played about 4 games with him last night and he just felt completely meh to me.
I made this team (spainish theme with pepe) which play's pretty well except the ST's seem weak. Although Rodrigo can be amazing one match then awful the next lol.

CDM - IF Busquets
RM - Navas - IF Silva - LM
CAM - IF Carloza
ST – Rodrigo - Torres

Try Modric. Got a very similar team to that. Works well for me :)
Was considering Casillas instead of De Gea and then getting Clichy instead of Evra to get Kompany 9 chem.

Still undecided on the 4231, Palacio ST or CF? Di Nat CF or ST? Got Moralez & Miccoli for the CAM spots, Zanetti LCDM, thinking Marchisio, Vidal or Nocerino for the other CDM spot, then a mixed defence

BTW I found Cambiasso a beat in 4231 CDM. Always breaking up the play. I originally had the old man and Cambiasso but sold the old man and got Vidal.

I don't get the Alves hype this year, Perreira is 160x cheaper and just as good if not better, Alves is just a waste it feels.

Cambiasso I've always liked, will try him & the codger at diff times, may try IF Vidal based on his pricing etc.. gonna have IF Kosc & Sagna in the back 4, will think more on the LCB, LB & GK later
Tried both was giving Alves a run out. Feels better. Bit more responsive and nippier. Will just sell him back and take the 5% if not.
Last year he was a demi-god at CDM, just ridiculous positioning like IF Busquets has this year. I preferred Zanetti, Inler or Nocerino there in 13.Ah yeah forgot you need at least 1 strong link due to dead link with LST.
IF Benzema and Modric? Or Kaka?
He'll be fine on 7!

the reason why they work so well is because they are 4.5 star, up against a 5 star team you get an advantage because all of their players are on low morale and yours are all on a high i have found due to "handicap" or whatever.
just make sure you keep applying morale cards every season
damiao is a beast in the air, yet to find a single defender who even gets near him, he is also very strong on the ball and good technically, which makes up for his lack of pace. just do not try and sprint with him too much unless he has a lot of space.
