Win8 Tablets

It's almost like they want it to flop.
It's actually frustrating, because the OS is sound, it's just actually having any products, I can't help but think It's partly down to MS and license fees. I don't understand why MS have their Surface at 400 in the first place, as the Dell XPS is cheaper, and superior in SOC.

They might not have wanted it to flop but they were asking for it when they decided to compete against the iPad without the brand name or the apps to back it up. Every single one of their marketing department should be hung, drawn and quartered.

I don't understand why they haven't just dropped the price.

Another thing that is killing these laptops are the dock prices, the XPS's costs 110 quid.

The transleeve for the ME400C isn't even available in the UK and is about 50 quid?

Surface's is 80 quid with the device, or 100 separately or something daft.

Someone convince me not to pick up an HP Envy X2! :p

Staples over here have it on sale for $599.99, plus you can apply a $75 off coupon so $525.00 and then they are doing a $100 trade-in on *any* netbook in working condition (including my MSI Wind netbook!).

Ummmm $425.00 for the Envy X2 seems a good deal??!

Agree. In fact, they should've priced it significantly lower at launch, built up a quick customer base and given their developers time to fill the app store. Once they've established themselves in the tablet market and the Surface has built a name for itself then they can look at competing with and against the big boys.

Yeah, I agree.
With the Xbox, they took a loss, but look at them now as we went into the next generation with the 360?

Take Google, they launch their Nexus devices, such as the Nexus 7 at a killer price point, the market in the 7" area is so much better because of that, and then they launched their big hitter in the Nexus 10, price it accordingly, but it's still a stand out product.

According to Paul Thurrott, who keeps an eye on MS for a living, the XBOX project is still very unlikely to have made MS any profit.

I highly doubt that.
I know they made a loss with the original, but this current/last (However you see it) with the 360 must have been profitable.

The development costs were huge, so even without the various reliability problems, making the overall project profitable was always going to be a very long term affair. This may help explain why Surface started out at such prohibitive (for mainstream interest) prices.

They don't want another Xbox, they want a premium, iPad style business model that justifies the effort sooner rather than later.

BTW the Thurrott comment came from this week's Windows Weekly podcast.

Can't help but think this is largely due to the design flaws the 360 launched with, it must be massively expensive for them to replace all those faulty units, having a delivery firm like UPS shipping them all back and forth along with all the additional costs around managing such an endeavor.

Still regardless of what they do with Xbox it's now a valuable brand for them and it's given them an online platform they probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Man it would be nice. If this is true

German website Techblog.gr reports that Acer is gearing up to launch a Windows 8 Pro tablet sporting one of Intel's upcoming Haswell processors.

Currently using the codename "Bulgari," the unannounced tablet will reportedly feature a huge 11.6-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and an 8 MP camera on the back. The tablet is reportedly "almost ready" to launch, indicating that it could be one of the Haswell launch devices next month.

According to the report, the tablet will have a fourth-generation Intel Core i3 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, and an SD card slot for additional storage. Unfortunately, that's it for details; no pricing and no actual launch date although it's slated for a June release. However, based on the specs alone, this "Bulgari" device seems to be the successor to Acer's current 11.6-inch Windows 8 tablet, the Iconia W7.

Decent size screen with decent resolution. I think that should support 4 snap screen apps with win8.1

I would prefer a 128gb ssd and ideally a stylus but if they have them then yes I'd agree that would be a nice option, not to mention I quite like the look of the current acer windows slates :)

If its like acres current line up, that will be the cheapest spec. With additional options available.

Surface RT 2 is rumoured to be using snapdragon 800 with also has 3G/4g in the qaulcomm chip.
Now that would be a massive upgrade and the best CPU available. Assuming they ship it this year.

The new atom is looking sweeeeeet

http://www.mobilemag.com/2013/06/07/intel-bay-trail-t/
While, AMD is just venturing into the world of Android, Intel has had big plans for the OS for a while now. What we have here is a new reference tablet from the company dubbed the Bay Trail-T, and it features the company’s “Silvermont” quad-core Atom processor.

The device with the Bay Trail chip, which weighs 611 grams and has about the same thickness as the 3rd/4th generation iPad, has a 10-inch 2560×1440 resolution display. The guys over at AnandTech were lucky enough to play with the slate which apparently was running both Windows 8 and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

According to Intel, Bay Trail’s capabilities include 2X the CPU and 3X the GPU performance compared to Clover Trail and very improved battery life. And of course they have also promised cheap tablets most of which should fall between $200 to $300 price range.

We will certainly be waiting for a product from tablet makers with Silvermont Bay Trail CPU. What about you?

Now can we jsut get some bay-trail and haswell tablets please.
