7970 Crossfire Stuttering

Been playing it for many many hours with it on, runs off of CPU fine on Low but like a bag of balls on high. Will try turning it off with crossfire though, it could well be the source of the issue if not the drivers.

Could be causing negative scaling running off the CPU with 2 GPUs was my thinking. Ran "OK" for me on medium but I wasn't happy with the minimums.

RadeonPro seems to make it smooth, at 60fps... It won't go any higher. I assume this is the application not liking 60hz-120hz-60hz monitor setups (I only game on the 120hz screen).
So that's a disappointment...

Well at least my suggestion made it smooth eh? ;)

If you're not satisfied with that disable xfire and use the one card.

Btw my suggestion will actually lower microstutter levels to below that of a single card user. :)

I guess the AMD driver stereotype is still quite valid. Tis a shame, will setup a profile to disable crossfire for BL2 and hope I don't get this with other games.

No need to thank me Rossi. I enjoyed spending time finding a solution to your problem.

If you're still having issues most likely a PEBKAC going by what pgi says.

7970 cf, 13.2 beta 3 or 4? 1080 120Hz, no stutter, if anything it's the best driver I've used for bl2.

I got it bad on BF3 with my 7970's with Eyefinity. I never did get to the bottom of it. I eventually disabled Crossfire and lowered settings. Don't know what the latest drivers are like though. I've yet to try them.

Sorry LtMatt, I didn't meant to offend. Just quite frustrated by things like this.

I am always grateful of help I get here, and with this also, I appreciate your time and input, thanks :)

If there is anything I can do to help you get to the bottom of this Rossi let me know, as we have very similar setups :)

Aye don't worry i know its annoying when things for whatever reason decide not to work. Maybe pgi can help further as you have similar systems.

Guys you don't need radeon pro to disable crossfire in selected games, the CCC can do that, have you tried different crossfire profiles and methods? again all this can be done in CCC.

For Black ops 2 - I have crossfire disabled, but not for stutter or performance issues, simply the game doesn't need more than one card - Zero core turns the other 2 off while I play,

and I play at 2560x1600 and everything on max, frame rate limited to 60fps with vsync off, and my card doesn't break 50% gpu usage so it only runs at 30c when playing.

Rossi, go into the CCC and set up a profile for the game you want to fix, try setting the crossfire to AFR and see if that works, I find it helps with scaling no end and even more so with tri fire.

Always limit the FPS to that of the monitor refresh rate (helps if the game has the limiter built-in) I use afterburner to limit any other games.

I haven't had any issues in games with crossfire tbh as I tailor each game with a tweaked profile with-in CCC, I don't even bother with radeon pro.

^^ The horses mouth, yes you're a horse Locky.

I normally just use Vsync in games (hate tearing, love a perfect image) and then limit my fps to 58 (using afterburner) to remove input lag. This means games run at a constant frame time of 17.2 ms without budging from 17.2 ms, which is unbelievably smooth. If the game in question dips below 58 then i just use the average frame rate and disable vsync. RadeonPro dynamic frame rate control does the same thing but on the fly. I don't use it myself but can see why it could be handy for some users.

You can disable it by using the latest (beta) version of afterburner. http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/msi_afterburner_beta_download.html

I think i will update the Amd afterburner overclock thread today.

Update:
Flip Queue Size 1
Seems to of cured 90% of stuttering alone. Borderlands 2 runs fine now.

However, i cannot run 3DMark Firestrike benchmark without it stuttering like a mofo on the second test. It's so bad that my score is barely any better than a single card.
Anybody else have issues with this?

:D

Thought i'd try it without the FPS and refresh rate settings and it turned out great.

Just need to tackle the 3DMark Firestrike stuttering and the heat issue and that's it done.

Makes me consider going multi gpu again. If only i had a xfire capable motherboard id probably venture into multi gpu again but the cost of having to buy both is too great for me atm.

If i'm honest, i kinda wish i sold the 7970 and bought a GTX 690 instead. Or at least researched it a bit before adding another card.
