As the title says i already own an gainward 680 but was going to get another, but i was looking at the 7970 cf and it looks temping.

Now i know some would say i would be going backwards in going down the 7970 cf path, but reviews i read tell me different.

I can sell the 680 for some dosh and make up the rest to get the 7970s. what you guys think?

I don't think anyone would say 7970 crossfire would be a step backwards, the performance they offer over 680 SLi isn't really in any dispute.

To be honest, you could even got 7950 crossfire, and still get more performance for not much more than you'd likely sell a 680 for.

@Blackwhite, "IMO" isn't really a defense for saying something that isn't factually correct. Both AMD and nVidia have instances of "microstuttering".

Do you plan on playing @1440p+?
If you're going to be playing in surround, or HD+ then opting for the wider bus of the 7970s is preferable, if you're playing @1080 i would say just buy a second 680 a lot less potential hassle.

As you already have a GTX 680, the cheapest/least hassle option is to get another GTX 680.

Crossfired HD 7970s are a little quicker but not enough to worry about.

Off the top of my head, Tommybhoy posted various frametime graphs that contradicted results we were discussing in a thread a little while back.

I assume the dell is a 1600P?

If so, it could pay to get 7970/50CF if you don't mind a little bit of stutter. Lots say that microstutter isn't noticable though.

For me, I would get another 680 and SLI those bad boys :)

I cant find another gainward model anywhere i was looking at the evga, but for abit more i could get 7970s aswell.
