Generique 7970?

I think anand done a comparison too, I'm sure kissenger mentioned it somewhere.

A few guys should get together and do some runs at set clocks using 67/80's and 7950/70's, not that I'm volunteering for doing a thread, but it would be a fantastic comparison like you said bud.

always people say that 7950 and 7970 at same clocks have 5% difference... but you need to remember that the memories on 7970 probably will overclock more than the 7950... and maybe the GPU too because of better pcb.

7950 memories by default are 5000mhz ddr5
7970 memories by default are 6000mhz ddr5 (even the non-ghz editions use 6000mhz memory chips clocked at 5500mhz)

These only apply at the top end of clocks.

True, but oc'ing is a mixed bag with any gpu, they won't all go to 1250/1650 in regards to max clocks.

Gregs talking(I think) about a baseline comparison where most 79's/6's will hit as a buying choice, it's not a 5-10% comparison that your talking about.

Yep. With the same guy testing BF3 for instance, He can pretty much replicate the run where someone else will do completely different. It still should give a rough idea though.

One thing is apparent...Only buy a 7970 if you are into benching and like wise with the 680.

CPU making a difference? Different drivers? Some PEBKAC issue? There's too many unknowns to draw a proper conclusion.

EDIT: You'd need a large sample to smooth the results out if they're coming from everywhere and I don't think you'll get enough people interested. Could be wrong though!

EDIT2: My 7950s are two of the best cards I've ever owned and I've had some beauties going back... 9800XT, 6600GT, 8800 Ultra, two 4850s, two 5850s, my 680s including "The Beast" (of whom I still miss dearly) and then my 7950s... for £230 each I can't think of more performance I've ever had per pound in relative terms. Crossfire is as robust as it's ever been IMO.

This, absolutely no point@1080p, I reckon you have to go multimonitor to notice the 5-10% difference in games.

Looking at it that way, it's not likely to happen.

The jury's out for me, £400 for my 6950>70's@1GHz+ is the best for me so far, fantastic CrossFire performance for the cost, simply murdering a 580 for £45 less when bought.

The 7970/50 CrossFireX was well, meh, but that was down to the cheap DD's poor clocks which only neutered the amazing clocks of the 7970.

However, £480 for my 7950 Ice-Q's@1200/1500@stock voltage(+4 games), the 6950>70's may have a fight on their hands, time will tell.
