Considering going 2560*1440

These are the monitors I've been looking at

I know Matt is very happy with his DGM but I think the stand isn't to great and there were a few people who had issues with the power brick I think.

I nearly bought the Dell when it was on offer last month, wish I had now. Some have had problems with the screen and I think its pot luck if you get a good or bad one.

There are threads here on both if you search for them.

I have 3 of the DGM IPS... for £320 you really can't complain
the one minor annoyance is the stand on one of mine is a bit loose and tilts forward a bit too easy, but if you leave it alone it stays where it's set, the other 2 are quite stiff and never an issue

image quality / panel wise they are perfect

some cards have problems displaying the bios screens over DVI so it can be a good idea to buy a display port cable... my 670's had this problem but my titan's work fine over DVI

Worried about the DGMs - I know loads are happy with them but think I'd rather avoid the luck aspect with them and I know the Dell monitors have a superb warranty package. I guess the pertinent question is:

Is the Dell worth £120 more over the DGM? :D

I think the DGM panels are very good. I managed to get one with no dead pixels nor any light bleed so am delighted with the purchase at the price. The stand isn't as awful as many think - yes it wobbles when you kick the desk hard but if you leave it alone it's fine. If I could afford it I would definitely go for something like the Apple Cinema Display which is a work of art, but at £600 cheaper the DGM is just fine. I think you can return it easily enough to OCUK if you don't like it for any reason and then try something else, so it should be reasonably risk free if you do want to try it out.

Decided to go for a look at the Dell one in post #2. If it isn't for me or I don't think it's worth the £430 (what I paid) I will DSR it.

Unfortunately there's no shops around here to go in and have a look prior to purchase so although it would feel terrible to DSR something for that reason I'm hoping it'll feel worthwhile :).

Be interesting to see what you think of it. I'm waiting (hoping) for it to be sub £400 again.

What are you worried about in regards the DGM warranty package?

I did have a fault develop on one of mine, the retailer contacted DGM on my behalf, I sent it direct to DGM (at their request) and had a brand new one back within 2 weeks - it was exactly a week after I physically sent it off. I never communicated directly with DGM myself (so as to retain SOGA rights with the retailer), but in terms of turnaround time I really can't complain.

Rather not have the hassle of having a dodgy stand and I prefer the aesthetics of the Dell monitor. Plus the zero defect Dell warranty is pretty decent. I know technically you've got your 7 day DSR period if it DOES have any obvious defects but say a really annoyingly placed pixel or two dies in a years time, the Dell package comes into its own.

Arrived this morning and definitely impressed overall. But 60 Hz is bothering me more than I thought having used 120 Hz for a long time. It's a bit like chalk and cheese though so I need to play a lot to find out if it really makes much difference in game.

My 2713HM runs at 75Hz which is a bit better than 60Hz. Not sure if you can do it on AMD but Nvidia lets you force a refresh rate in the settings.

I have been stalking you as we both have 2 x 7950s and I need a new monitor. (Playing at 720p )

I have yet to make my mind up but was looking at 1440 monitors. Will wait and see what you decide as it should help me decide as well.

How are the cards handling Crysis 3/BF3/Far Cry 3/Any game? lol

While I can't make use of the extra frames I'm getting now on a 60hz monitor I don't really want to make the jump to a bigger res and go down to something like 40fps on games.

Ha ha. It's all good.

Cards are handling games fine. BF3 was well above 60 FPS (vsync off for testing). Far Cry 3 again, was fine, but crossfire still causes issues in this game for me but the performance is there. Crysis 3 I've not tried. Tomb Raider is fine on Ultimate preset with SSAA 2x and Tress FX although I play with FXAA on as SSAA is not needed at this res IMO and it's a large performance hit (10-15 FPS).
