Gaming controller?

Hello

I know that you can used a wired Xbox/PC gaming controller to play Games For Windows Live titles...

But is there any other universal PC controllers you can buy that will work on NON Games for Windows Live?

any hits tips and advice would be great

You can use something like Motioninjoy to map the buttons of a controller to the keyboard keys. You can also try seeing if the controller options in the game you want to play can be mapped directly to your controller.
 
I use my Xbox 360 controller for games that are not GFWL. so your assumption above is incorrect. Xbox 360 controller widely considered to be the best controller so just get one of them.
 
I use my 360 controller for all games. Don't even consider anything else. I had so many issues with my Logitech controller before the 360 controller became available. Haven't had a problem since. Best purchase I have made on my PC.
 
As above, xbox controller is generic, will work with anything a normal pad will work with.

Currently using an MW3 edition wireless pad :)
 
oh I thought the Xbox Wired Controller ONLY works for GFWL? I tried it on Call of duty 4, and It didnt work

is there something special you need to do, to make your xbox360 controller to work on games that are not GFWL?

Lots of PC games just don't support controllers. Makes no difference if they are GFWL or not.

If you are dead set on using a controller for games which do not support it, then a program to remap controller keys is needed. Xpadder is great, as is Pinnacle Game Profiler(I use pinnacle myself for the odd game, as you can just download a profile quickly)
 
Nearly all modern games support Xinput, not Dinput which the older pads supported.

Ensure any pad you purchase supports Xinput for minimal problems.
 
afaik CO4 does not support a controller of any kind, you can use some kind of program to map the controls but I can't imagine it working very well without autoaim.
 
So for example, the new Tomb Raider game which is not GFWL...

I would just plug Wired Xbox360 controller in and it would recognize it and I can just play?
