How does x16 + x4 run these days?

Only a small a possibility atm, but I'm Just considering a two card set-up. Does x16 and x4 make it worthwhile, or is x8 x8 still the minimum?

I have the Z77-D3H aswell and have just posted a thread about getting a new board just to Crossfire two 7950's. This is quite interesting as many people said to me, don't get the Z77-D3H if you are thinking of Crossfiring.

Interesting.

I'm most concerned about minimum and average fps (my gtx480 delivers more than enough fps at the high end). Although I'm normally inclined to consider and recommend for that matter, a single gpu, something like 7850 crossfire would seem excellent value for money. And, of course, then you have the added bonus of the overclocking headroom they offer.

Neat, I am just looking in the manual at the moment aswell and when using PCIEX4 slot, only PCIEX1_2/3 slots are unavailable meaning you can still use PCIEX1_1 as a slot for a Sound Card which I have only recently bought! :D

That's good news about the sound card. :)

I'm using on-board sound atm, my sound card bit the dust a while back (or so it would seem).

I'd be interested in this. With PCI-E 3.0 i expect the performance decrease to be smaller. On PCI-E2.0 x16 x4 i found the performance impact was about 5-15% depending on the game/benchmark.

5-15% on 2.0 is quite a lot less than I thought it would be, so that's good news. If you'd said 25%, I still would have been impressed.

If you check the unigine heaven thread, i posted my 6950 unlocked to 6970 xfire results @x16-x4.

So there would be no noticable difference in games. I was going to sell my current board and get a another specifically for crossfire but now I might stick to the Z77-D3H and crossfire 7950's. What would you recommend?

I would get x8 x8 if it was me. X16 x4 is ok, but its not optimal.
