I'm selling my current PC to my brother for £900 with a monitor to help him get into PC gaming. Spec is:

i5 2500k @4.5ghz with Coolermaster Hyper 412s Cooler
8gb Corsair Vengeance Blue
Gigabyte Windforce 3x GTX 680
XFX 850w XXX Silver Modular PSU
Gigabyte Z68-AP-D3 Mobo
Crucial M4 256gb SSD
Thermaltake V3 case with 6 Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900rpm fans on a controller.

I know I won't see much of an improvement for my budget but what kind of new system could I build for £1200 give or take £100 or so. Things I would like:

7970ghz edition as it will be faster slightly than the 680 I had.
Maybe a 512gb Samsung 840 pro
i7 cpu is a must as I don't see the point going i5 and it will help with streaming/recording.
Samsung Green memory as for the price it can't really be beaten once tweaked.

Seems a good start Stulid, however I don't need a HDD or a DVD drive so maybe I could fit a 512gb 840 pro in with them removed.

Not a 512GB SSD, but a 240GB Pro,

Forgot to mention,

The setup is obviously ready for a 2nd GFX card.

The case is stacked with features and is big enough to take the cooler and cards.

Don't really like the look of that case. I'd be willing to spend more if I could get extra performance however I want to stay with a single GPU solution as I've had nothing but trouble when toying with CF/SLI in the past.

I'm seriously considering going back to AMD with the FX8350 as I can get a top spec mobo like the Asus Crosshair V Formula Z AMD 990FX for under £200. Looking at benchmarks it should be better than the 2500k in most things and hopefully more games will start using 8 cores within a year or so.

Would like an opinion if anyone has went back to AMD as I know nearly everyone around here goes Intel now looking at the benchmark threads in the graphics card forum.

Intel core processors are generally better than their AMD counterparts - whilst the former may be more expensive, you pay for what you get which is higher performance, better power consumption efficiency and high reliability.

Looks good - maybe change the CPU cooler to the famous Alpenfohn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler though? It's cheaper by a few quid and I haven't seen any bad reviews of it.

That case is alright, but I'd prefer something with a better build quality like a Corsair case or BitFenix (e.g. BitFenix Gaming Windowed Case) as Coolermaster cases can be a bit, well, on the cheap side in some cases (excuse the pun).

I just need a case with excellent airflow and that's why I picked the HAF-X as upon searching a lot of people still regard it as king of airflow with the stock fans. I know I'd probably be better off getting a well made case and buying some SP120 fans or something but it's extra money and increases the time to build.

Consider a Z77-UP4TH board, that will save some money and the resident OcUK guru 8pack even says its good.
