Father sentenced to 10 years for killing baby daughter

Another murder wrongly classed as manslaughter, love the British injustice system.

Granting that we don't have the full facts and that the reporting is via the Daily Mail so hardly a bastion of quality but it might be perfectly correctly classed as manslaughter. For instance if the mens rea for murder wasn't present then it can't be murder so perhaps it's right that it is classified as something else.

A tragic case no doubt but adjusting the parameters of what are crimes to get the "right" result in particular cases would be worse. If this was part of a pattern of behaviour as was suggested then I'd be more worried about why that wasn't picked up on before the death of the child.

The mens rea for murder and voluntary manslaughter are the same, on the balance of probabilities it's hard to see any diminished responsibility defence here which would reduce the murder charge to manslaughter.

I imagine he'll be quickly set upon by the other inmates so probably won't last 6 months never mind 10 years

probably put on protection wing with the rapists, paedos and vulnerable prisoners.

he will be safer there than in genpop with the nutters. i never saw this as a proper solution. if you do something so bad people want to lynch you then its your fault. why should you get special protection?

Because we have a duty of care to all prisoners?

Because we have a duty of care to all prisoners?

but where is the care of duty locking up a shop lifter with murderers?

there is a lot more violence in genpop than on the protected wings. why should someone wait to get slashed before they can go on a safer wing?

IMO violent prisoners should be put on a separate wing to non-violent ones.

How likely is the shoplifter to actually end up in a Cat A prison? How likely are they to be attacked? High risk prisoners are, after all, at much greater risk.

But that problem isn't going to be solved by putting high risk prisoners in general population, you would only make things worse.

How very Christian :p

Ha maybe it isn't, but it's hard to remain calm when you read about such cases. There was one not too long ago when a guy repeatedly smashed a baby against a wall. Would you be forgiving of such a disgrace of human being? If you can, you're better man than me.
