Purchasing Windows 7

Any reason why you don't want W8, it's W7 with added features + speed.

Just going to have to grab a retail windows 7 key from here/vendor.
Would you be switching keys across PC's in any time, as you could get OEM and keep it stuck with the hardware you have.

Windows 8, is NO better then windows 7, its just the lastest version. People will just buy windows 8 because its the latest, even tho it makes tasks harder to achieve then on windows 7

Ah yeah. So what if windows 8 loads faster, windows 7 gets jobs done without the fancy rubbish that makes it more painful to get where your trying to go.

Works both ways ie Win8 is NO worst then Win7,personally its a piece of cake to use and if you think its hard maybe you should look at the early days when you had to learn DOS commands, rearrange memory for games, assign IRQs etc for DOS before Windows make it all easy,as usual FUD appears on every thread,I can understand people not liking Win8 or UI etc but its not hard to use infact damn easy .

Another advantage of Win8 is you probably get Windows Blue free upgrade wise,we have to wait and see if that pans out.

Win7 wise probably OEM version is the cheapest, you just need to shop around.

I use to think that with DOS ie did not need fancy Windows back then ;) ,but you got to move with the times sooner or later, end of the day no OS is perfect not even Win7 .

Im not saying windows 8 is hard to use,, but you have to go through more loops to get where you are going for some tasks.

Like all the other OS versions has been worth while upgrades, but win8, I beg to differ, and windows 8 will be the only OS I wont be upgrading to in like 10yrs, because what has it got to offer, aside from being a tad faster?

To be honest I used Win7 for over two years and I find Win8 just as easy and everything within one or two clicks max(Win8 is very easy to customize and navigate around once you learn the OS like you have to on any new OS ),and this is from a desktop/gamer which is what I'm.

I'll be upgrading to Blue ,Win9,10,11 etc..as long as I can game, infact any Windows or even Linux is a piece of cake to use compared to the old days.

As to your last question I could say what does Win7 offer over Vista apart from less nagging in UAC and slight speed increase,at least Win8 offers more over 7 then 7 ever did over Vista feature wise and far better value(15 quid for me) also if we do get Blue free as well mega bargain plus :) .

What rubbish, for a start he's not upgrading, he's buying new. W8 for a start is far cheaper like for like.
Secondly w8 has far more features than just boot time.
Third w8 is very easy to use once you give it a fortnight, even if you don't find this, then there's things like startsback.

The only reason anyone should be buying w7 is if they know something doesn't work on it. Upgrading is a different matter, but buying new, you would be pretty mad, to not go win8.

Just shop around for a copy - Windows 7 is easy to buy. You just have to decide OEM or retail. Your media is worth next to nothing so you're not missing out on any key-only discounts.

Those were the days. How irritating all that was back then. Kids nowadays, they don't know what hard is.

Ppl automatically think its because of the start menu that ppl dont like win8. But Id think I would prefer the new start menu as its very customisable and you have still got all the default tiles/icons in the "show all" or whatever its called, so you can remove the tiles/icons you rarely use in the main start.

But what other features/improvements have you got over win7, as win8 was mainly pointed towards tablets/touch screen, not desktops, as this is where the money is at now, not desktops.

Boot time
Refresh/restart
Metro
Security
Multi screen support
Task manager
User login, which is just awesome.

And more
There's a ton of stuff and seeing as win8 oem = retail it's cheaper than w7

Metro is already awesome and will get much better, the traditional desktop has gone as far as it can.
I much prefer meto for media consumption on desktop. And tbh it stops there due to tradition program's not supporting metro.

Give me meto netflix any day of the week over website, same with audible, live on, kindle etc.

Going a tad off topic ......... What also annoys me about win8, because win8 can run on low powered systems, Ive seen laptops that are basically rubbish running win8 in the highstreet, and they call it latest technology... now this is wrong surely?

My Samsung laptop came with Win7( one year ago), I upgraded to Win8 and its snappier in general with longer battery life so I win allround,I won't bother mentioning my other two Win7 upgrades to 8 on my other PCs ;) .

Remember the old days when OEMs would ship hardware with Vista below its minimum recommended specs,Vista got the blame for that but it was not Vista's fault,I could also mention the OEM software bloat that comes with laptops too.

V F in some ways I miss those days, games were games back then.

It isn't, I should have edited that, soz..

But like there's no wonder that people perfers tablets to laptops, if laptop manufactures are going to use 5yr hardware because windows 8 runs fine with old hardware. I for one would expect all laptops nowadays to have decent fast hdd and 2ghz dual core cpus at least so theres no more waiting for laptops to boot, but this seems to be going the other way, snappier OS and rubbish hardware, so the bootup time is no better then the days you had quite a decent spec laptops but with a demanding OS.

But thats it ppl are cutting corners left, right and centre nowaday to make more money.

Fact is, that I initially did not get on with Win8 when I first got it but after a month or so of using it, it is snappier, quicker and easier to navigate round than Win7.

But that's business. And I wouldn't necessarily agree that all hardware is like that. Yes there is some cheap tat around, but that's always been true. You wouldn't apportion blame on Windows 8 any more than you would on Windows XP or Linux when netbooks were all the rage.

And to be fair I think you're exaggerating how bad the hardware is. I just mooched over to the purple shirt shop website and literally clicked on the first Windows 8 laptop.

Core i3-2328M
4GB RAM
500GB Disk
£319 web price

That would wipe the floor with anything in that range from 5 years ago. At the end of the day if you know it's rubbish, don't buy it.
