Which of the latest pc games were mere console ports?

Any multi platform game that is released on PC can be considered a console port, as they are all designed primarily for the console market.

So, farcry 3 on pc is graphically identical to that on the xbox 360? Or have they somehow optimized it for pc!?

No. The PC is clearly superior, the console versions run bespoke versions of the game that are optimised very well considering the age of their hardware.

The thing I find funny is, whenever a new multi platform game comes out, they always show how it looks on pc first, and why not show how the majority play it. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the metal gear solid ground zero game first shown running on a pc? Yet it's a console only game?

They all are to varying degrees, it is also nothing new, which makes the crying of "CONSOLE PORT WAAAAH" even less worthy of consideration.

It is one of the recent fads I wish people would just drop, even when games run brilliantly and look excellent on PC there is always a very vocal minority of douche bags ready to hop out of the woodwork whining about porting and "optimization", another god awful word used by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Every game, multiplatform or not, is better on a PC.

From better framerate (60 versus 20-30 on consoles), better resolution (1080p,1560p versus 640-720p on consoles), much higher details (ultra, very high versus low-medium on consoles), much better customization (you can choose to use mouse and keyboard or controller, you can customize you keys and many gameplay options, on consoles usually you are restricted), modding (PC has mods, consoles do not).

Plus, PC games are much cheaper even on release.

PC is the way to play, if you value quality of experience. Once PS4 is out, it might challenge PC for 2 years. After that, PC hardware will surpass it and will again be the way to play.

Just a thought....even though a game may be primarily designed for a console, in terms of how it plays/controls etc......arent all games built, coded and designed on PC's??

Surely they have to test and run things on PC's throughout the development cycle....so this word "ported" which in my mind sounds like something which is built and designed on a PS3 or Xbox, where it is then converted to PC isnt quite accurate?

I may be wrong.

CoD4 is pants on PC because dedicated servers means "lol let's put 64 men on a 12 man map because that will go great". Even promod now is very poor because of a small community and nothing but a prefire competition.

More casual multiplayer games like CoD, Fifa etc. are pretty much all better on consoles because of the player bases. A multiplayer game is more affected by who you play with than whether your texture is 1024*1024 or 4096*4096. Particularly older games that could very quickly die on a smaller PC audience.

Yes graphics will be better on a PC almost invariably, but there's a lot more to gaming than just the graphics.

Plus you get all the exclusive that PC doesn't generally, particularly in regard to the likes of Forza and Gran Turismo.

I remember when Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter came out, the pc version was completely different to the console versions.

You played from a first person view on the pc and third person on the console, not sure if anything else was changed but it felt like a complete overhaul for the pc and I thought that was a great thing they did.

Don't think theres been anything but graphical enhancements (from other games) since.

PC doesn't have really any major exclusives except Blizzard titles and some RTS games.

Pretty much all MMO's (Eve, Guild Wars 1/2, Rift etc.)

Outlast - New Horror Exclusive for PC

Slender: The Arrival

Mechwarrior

Blizzards Games - Diablo, Starcraft, Wow etc.

Total War Series

Day Z/Arma

Sim City

Every platform has its fair share of decent exclusives.

Looks like Blizzard has partnered up with Sony now so it's lost another exclusive (I know it's only Diablo 3, and I highly doubt anything else but it will be on console due to what RTS games and the like tend to turn out). Have to give the indie devs some credit though, some of their PC exclusives are fantastic and have kept my attention longer than some AAA console titles.
