Anyone scared of dying without leaving your mark in human history?

But new theories say otherwise.

If the Universe is infinite that means infinite Earths with infinite combinations of events. That means on one Earth in the infinite universe I'm sat here typing this on a Windows laptop rather than this MacBook.

I want no part in such a universe. :p :D

should have got a Mac mini :p

What theory would that be? The multi-verse theory? Not really any proof for an infinite universe. There are far better reasons to believe why the universe is not infinite. An infinite universe makes no sense at all. And, the infinite can be found no where in the known observable universe - so why would the universe itself be any different?

Why does a infinite universe make no sense. why should it.

Infinite Universe makes no sense at all? Pull the other one. This is what happens when people are raised to be closed minded toward scientific theory and its constant improvement through research and observation.

Sean Carroll "The answer is that Euclid was right, space seems to us to be FLAT as far as we can measure it."
Professor Saul Perlmutter
Prof. Saul Perlmutter

Saul Perlmutter "That means that the simplest picture of the universe, is a universe that is infinite. We really could live in a universe where, there's Galaxy after a galaxy after Galaxy, every direction. Up, down, sideways. And, it never stops."

Cosmologists have found a way to picture the universe in its entirety – confirmation of the tremendous power of making maps.

Sean Carroll "It will never cease to amaze me, we human beings here on this tiny little rock are able to reach out with our instruments and our brains to understand the whole shebang."

And if an infinite universe isn't big enough for you – then Saul Perlmutter has proved it's still growing.

Saul Perlmutter "All the distances are getting bigger, every day. So, its still infinite, all the same galaxies are there, its just that we have pumped more space between every point in this infinite universe. That's really is mind-boggling."

I don't like the idea of it, but it is an eventuality to us all.

Whether we leave a mark or not, who knows.

Isn't the universe a closed system? That would mean its subject to the second law of thermodynamics. Why is the universe not winding itself back up? We only ever see it winding down.

I like to believe in Quantum Immortality, because it means that no matter how I die on this Earth, I survived on another Earth. I may also exist on an Earth where we've already discovered the secrets to eternal life, therefore a version of me will be around until the end of time.

It's quite possible I've already made my mark in history, just not ours.

It's a comforting theory.

That's sci-fi, I'm afraid.

Right Jason, you create more of a problem having finite size universe because your hit a brick wall at the end of the universe, so you have to answer the question what is on the other side of that brick wall.

What mark did you leave? :p

When you are the King of Scotland, can I tell people I knew you as a kid?

Excellent signature by the way.

I couldn't be royalty, although my family were responsible for saving the independence of the Scots crown, I'd prefer any of my achievements to be more altruistic.

But yes, you were always beaten at fitbaw by the King of Scots. ;)
