just asking here 7870??

Exactly the same PSU?

In that case put her PSU in your rig and then try with the GPU and everything. See if the spans fin up, provided the fans spin up and your HDD is working then power is getting to the GPU.

same psu brand ,watt's ect

the psu is 6months old and everything works rite now just soon as this gpu 7870 gets plugged in i get that little power boost to power up the pc and that is all but once the gpu is not plugged in all my rig works 100%, its a new ssd in it and have had no problems with the pc since i built it, just this gpu im having no real power in it.

I didn't realise you had access to another PSU - shame it's the same one as we cannot rule out if it's providing ample wattage - I reckon your system should need to pull about 400w including the 7870 which I would have thought the PSU should manage even as a 600w no name brand (providing it's not that shoddy.) I'd be more inclined to RMA the card if the other PSU produces the same results. The system shutting off quick might be some kind protection by the PSU if the card is at fault (well there's a +1 for the PSU if that's the case!)

Big difference in power requirements for these two cards if you're interested....

Radeon HD 7770 80 Watts
Radeon HD 7870 175 Watts

Hes using the Tahti version of the 7870 though, which is almost a 7950 and I doubt power draw will be much different between the XT and a 7950. My concern is of the low Amps provided by each 12V rail.

Does it boot without the GPU in? Are any comments touching the case and shorting it(that what can happen when it spins for a split second then stops)

In that case the plot thickens! Could well be the PSU - I went for a single rail model recently - much less hassle and respectable amps too :)

427W i have calculated with the 7870 in my pc.
386W with the 7770 in my pc.

im like 70% its one of the bad gpu's since the SN as well matches the bad ones.

but as ststed it could be the psu since its a shobbey oem one.

Its your choice, chances are its either a shady PSU or GPU. But just so you know I would buy a decent PSU anyway. Because your running a risk of having your PC get fried by it.

Kudos to that - see the PSU as an investment for all the other gear - too many people risk their components with crappy supplies. They seem to be a constant tale of woe in these forums. I'm sure if everyone used a quality PSU then we'd see less posts on all manner of issues... :)

ok what psu would you recommend but is a Modular one as i hate all the wires everywhere

If your doing a single GPU setup 500W of quality PSU is more than enough. You only need more if you running a dual GPU setup.

GPU's are getting more effecient not less.

ok thank you i will look into them psu's and thank you for the help
