I couldn't see any 2013 threads for this so I made one. So are you taking a punt this year? :)

In early April each year, the world and its media descend upon Aintree Racecourse for three of the biggest days in the British sporting and social calendar, the John Smith’s Grand National, which in 2013 will take place from Thursday 4th – Saturday 6th April.

A British sporting institution, the Grand National attracts over 154,000 racegoers for three days like no other, which includes Grand Opening Day, Ladies’ Day and a day which needs no introduction, John Smith’s Grand National Day.

Over 11 million viewers tuned in to watch the 2012 race on the BBC and were witness to many firsts; a photo finish deciding the winner and a first Grand National victory for champion trainer, Paul Nicholls. Neptune Collonges victory over Sunnyhill Boy also added Neptune Collonges to the history books as only the third grey to have ever won the race in its rich 165-year history.

2012 Grand National Result

1.Neptune Collonges - D Jacob - P Nicholls - 33/1
2.Sunnyhillboy - R McLernon - J O'Neill - 16/1

4.Cappa Bleu - P Moloney - E Williams - 16/1

40 Ran

The 2012 race turned out to be one of the most memorable races in recent years with Neptune Collonges claiming the win. The horse gave Paul Nicholls his first National win in a photo finish with Sunnyhillboy who also ran a cracking race at Aintree. Seabass was given a peach of a ride by Katie Walsh to finish third while Cappa Bleu ran on well to claim a good fourth place.

2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007 results can be seen by opening below spoiler tags.

2011 Grand National Result

1615 John Smith's Grand National Steeplechase

1. Ballabriggs (Jason Maguire) 14-1
2. Oscar Time (Sam Waley-Cohen) 14-1
3. Don't Push It (Tony McCoy) 9-1
4. State Of Play (Paul Moloney) 28-1
5. Niche Market (Harry Skelton) 16-1
40 ran

The 2011 Grand National proved to be a classic race with a fairytale winner in Ballabriggs who held off a gallant charge from Oscar Time. Those two horses were travelling the best throughout and and jumped the last together leaving them to battle it out on the run in. It was Ballabriggs who won for trainer Donald McCain who continued the Aintree Mccain family dynasty with father Ginger watching on at the course. Dont Push It ran a blinder off of top weight to run third while State Of Play was plugging on around the elbow to capture 4th place.

2010 Aintree Grand National Result

1. Dont Push It (A P McCoy) 10/1jf
2. Black Apalachi(D O'Regan ) 14/1
3. State Of Play (P Moloney) 16/1
4. Big Fella Thanks (B Geraghty) 10/1jf
5. Hello Bud (S Twiston-Davies)

2010 would prove to be a classic renewal of the Grand National with all sorts of incident along with a momentus victory for Dont Push It, as in 2009 we saw Black Apalachi run very prominently for Dessie Hughes but he was unable to keep pace with the eventual winner. AP McCoy finally ended his long drought in the worls biggest race to cross the finish line on board Dont Push It, it was a great ride by AP and the crowd were delighted with the winner at Aintree. State Of Play once again ran well in the National for third place while Big Fella Thanks just ran out of steam over the final half mile and will be back in 2011.

Grand National Result 2009

1. Mon Mome (L Treadwell) 100-1
2. Comply Or Die (T J Murphy) 14-1
3. My Will (R Walsh) 8-1
4. State of Play (Paul Moloney) 14-1
5. Cerium 100-1

Mon Mome was the first horse to win at the odds of 100/1 since 1967. This is when Foinhaven won the Grand National in the race that all the horse fell at one fence while he managed to avoid the carnage as he was so far behind at the time. Mon Mone finished 10th in the 2009 National and so this was a real step up for the Venetia Williams trained horse. Mon Mome was given a top ride by his jockey Liam Treadwell, having hunted his way round on the first circuit. He took closer order second time round and jumped the last alongside Comply Or Die and My Will and went on up the long home straight.

Grand National 2008 Result

It was Comply Or Die who would go on to win the 2008 Grand National impressively after he set off as a 7/1JF. He ran an almost perfect race keeping himself in contention and jumping brilliantly and when it came to the run in he showed he had the stamina and class to top everyone. King Johns Castle was a gallant second but didn’t quite have the stamina to match the winner after the final fence. Snowy Morning was a really good ride in finishing third and he is a young horse and should be one to watch in future years. Slim Pickings travelled well but faded towards the end and came home in a good fourth place.

1st: Comply or Die 7-1 jf
2nd: King Johns Castle 20-1
3rd: Snowy Morning 16-1
4th: Slim Pickings 10-1
5th: Bewleys Berry 12/1

Grand National 2007 Result

For the running of the 2007 Grand National they could not separate Point Barrow, Joes Edge and gambled on Monkerhostin who all went off joint favourite. Norton Brook took them along early with favourite Point Barrow falling early and the gambled on Monkerhostin just did not take to the national fences and refused. Libertine was well up there and L’Ami was looking good in behind with Hedgehunter also coming into the race on the second circuit. Going to the second last it was between Siler Birch, Slim Pickings and McKelvey with Silver Birch proving most game and stayed on very well to once again took the race for the Irish.

1. Silver Birch (R Power) 33-1
2. McKelvey (TJ O'Brien) 12-1
3. Slim Pickings (B Geraghty) 33-1
4. Philson Run (D Jacob) 100-1
5. Liberthine (Mr S Waley-Cohen) 40-1

This might be better in Sport, but as a lot of people only bet of the year is on the National, due to sweeps at work etc, I suppose its fine.

Anyway Ive picked a few Each Way shots

Treacle - 33/1
Rare Bob 25/1

Isn't this the wrong forum?

I'll be subscribing either way as I think I'll stick a fiver on this time.

Well I searched and last year a thread was made in sports but the one in general was about 10 times longer with more discussion. So I whacked it in general. Mods can move to wherever though. Don't mind.
Pics about to be added to first posts.

Each way presumably? :)

Nah I never do for the Grand National. GLORY OR NOTHING!!!

In truth I usually only put a tenner on for whatever Saturday sports are happening.

£5 on the winner, the other £5 went on footie rather than an each way spin. :)

Grand National betting is silly, but I've picked these 3 -

Imperial Commander
Teaforthree
Ballabriggs

I used Betfair, but only because I still had money in there.

Placed 5 bets on randomly generated horses, £2 each EW (5 places 1/4 odds), all at Starting Price: Soll, Cappa Bleu, Chicago Grey, The Rainbow Hunter and What A Friend

Harry the Viking gets my vote. I only go by the names & that's a corker. :D

Imperal Commander is a classy horse and could make this lot look silly but he's been away for a while and it's a bit of a risk but 14/1 is a corking price.

More lively outsiders could be Big Fella Thanks at 40/1, has come 4th, 6th and 7th before so he can safely get round but there might be a few too good for him. Certainly worth an e-w punt with a bookie paying first 5. Becauseicouldntsee was among the shorter prices the last few years and fell early on so could be up there if he jumps but that's questionable. Shouldn't be 100/1 though.

Teaforthree has been purposely set up for this race and was 2nd in the Welsh National so stamina isn't a problem. However, my pick is Chicago Grey at 12/1.
