Large Panorama of Tokyo (56k...just yes, yes, click me like that, oooh yeah you know I like it)

trying to figure out what this is ...
looks like a giant skateboard in a open loop track - its on top of a building that looks pretty 'cruddy' so I would assume its not some amusement ride.

Also appears to be 2 objects sitting on the 'skateboard' - note that the skateboard is as big as a large vehicle.

They look like large spot lights.

It's a counter weight to dampen the effects of earthquakes. I think.

why do some windows, even some buildings have what look like red hearts in the windows?

edit, on closer inspection they're just red triangles.

Triforce?

Close. I actually asked the same question when I was in Tokyo a few years back.

I think they are windows that firemen can break into in the event of an earthquake/disaster of some kind.

Can we PLEASE establish that no one has 56K any more.........

Actually to be fair this not necessarily true.
Sometimes I connect via my USB Data Dongle thingy, and sometimes I'm in areas where GPRS/EDGE is only available (only still faster than 56k but only slightly!).
But regardless, its tradition, any data intensive thread needs a "no 56k". If anything to pay homage to the once well trusted (and only way) to connect to Bulletin boards and the internet.
(And racking up a nice thousand pound phone bill).

Saw this whilst I was there. After doing a bit of digging I don't think it got used that much so it just sits there doing nothing?
