Evening all.

As the title suggests, I am considering purchasing a new car. My current car is a Fiat Punto Active Sport 1.2. Had it nearly 8 years now and it's done 54K.

Don't get me wrong, It's a good little car and hasn't let me down yet in terms of reliability but I want something that is more powerful.

This is where the VXR comes in. I noticed it whilst I was working and decided to pop over to the car lot and have a look. Must admit, It's a head turner and has a very striking colour.

Seems in good condition. No scratches or dents and looks tidy inside. There is however a little cover that is missing on the roof (has screw under it or mounting for a roof rack I believe) but was told they could easily replace that.

I do have some reservations though. Firstly, the VXR has done 71K and is an 06 Reg. It's had one owner and I can't help but feel it's been ragged and now it's had it's use the previous owner has got rid before problems start.

It is worth mentioning that I enquired about it's MOT and was shown the VOSA test sheet and it passed with no advisory's. Full service history too.

I'm not sure if this is a good investment. Yes, I realise stepping up from a 1.2 Punto and getting into one of these will be like going from a Meerkat to a Lion but I am intrigued by it.

I am in the process of getting some insurance quotes as this will obviously be a very important factor that could make or break my decision.

Lastly, I was told that due to the age of my car and the fact it has a relatively low milage, a part ex offer would be positive.

Maybe it's me but I feel that this is typical sales BS as they want my business.

Please give me any advice that you can.

Thanks.

Is your desire primarily the looks of the car or the performance?

I'd struggle to warrant buying a 6/7 year old hot hatch for £10,000.00 with 71,000 miles on the clock, unless it's this car you want specifically.

As I said. I want opinions and advice. If this is going to be a can of worms then I won't bother. Yes it looks nice but I'm not going to be buying it based on looks alone.

What do you want from a car? I'd be very suprised if that Astra is the best option for, well, anyone.

If you just want a nice looking car there are better cars that are cheaper to buy and cheaper to run.

If you want a decent hot hatch there are better cars that are cheaper to buy or better to drive.

I'm laughing to myself now. Just had my head chewed off by my old man. Told me the car is not nearly enough the asking price and I could be buying somebody else's problem.

Fair enough.

My VXR was £6700, 40k miles, fsh, 56 plate. Though it did need 1k chucking straight into it so really, £7700. This was over a year ago.

10k is burg money.

I was expecting this to be about 6k to be honest! Pretty shocked to find they want 10k for a 7 year old Astra

Vauxhalls aren't particularly good, get a Focus ST instead ;)
