Agreed, have always bought WD and will continue to do so :)

I must have the worst luck with WD hard-drives then. My old internal died on me (although granted it was old) and now my relatively unused 2TB external is playing up.

Never had a problem with WD and my Caviar Blacks are now into year four of use.

Is that for two?

Awesome choice of destination, trying to find decent flights for Sep at the moment :p Annoyingly BA want something stupid like £750 each whereas for October its £550-600ish :(

Two and an infant , I think there was £100 charge for her, not bad prices, they went up £50 in a day though!

We've got a car hired for when we get there, looking forward to it!

Pretty decent price judging by what we've seen so far this year price wise. You'll have a fantastic time!

3 weeks too so I do hope your trip is taking you down to Vegas, LA etc as well :p

A quick bit of reading around seems to suggest the USB-SATA connector within the chassis tends to break easily in the Caviars. I opened mine up (after it started playing up) as I was considering using it as an internal, but when I turned it upside down it decided to work again. Too afraid to try and use it for now until I have another drive to backup on to.

Doesn't really matter for modern drives I guess. In the olden days drives used to state not to be mounted at an angle as the life expectancy would be reduced. Given that drives have a mtbf of half a million hours and that you would dock such a drive temporarily anyway you can see where I'm going with this. Also speeds are not affected as I get 105MB/s copying from disk to disk with an old Samsung 1TB docked

Besides, Corsair are not going to put an angled bay in if it was going to damage a drive. Plus you'd hear about it on the internet.

Id say they are probably more prone to it with far far greater density, higher spindle speeds, lower cost construction and bearings etc.

This is also quite interesting showing that just noise can have an effect on things: http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/09/01/02/0626201/why-not-to-shout-at-your-disk-array

Though as you say, for short bursts probably not a major issue :)

I just got this new watch. I'm happy with it!

Image came out too big on my iPhone after upload from impure :/

Greater density yeah I agree but rotational speeds are power managed and are dynamic, certainly the case for WD Red drives that don't have a fixed rotation speed.

Reliability isn't a huge deal these days really but yeah you do get the lemon batch here and there and this has been the case since the beginning of time anyway :p

Also, I don't shout at my array :D

I'll have to try some jerky from there. Bookmarked. I love jerky!

It's annoying how unpopular jerky is in the uk, it's an amazing snack and so so much better than crisps or other junk food.

Australia and America where both amazing, every shop/garage had a massive range to choose from.

I will be ordering some from that place on payday, I haven't seen low carb before, far to much sugar in Wild West Jerky, which is pretty much all you can find in shops.
