Accelera Tyres

To save me from starting another tiresome thread, which cheapish tyres should I buy? Looking to spend around £70 a corner, need 4, size is 205 55 16.

Toyo Proxes T1-R
Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39
Pirelli P7 Cinturato
Dunlop SP Sport 01
Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse
Goodyear Eagle NCT5
Goodyear EfficientGrip
Bridgestone Turanza T001
Uniroyal RainExpert

Mostly want good wet braking, I've become slightly more safety concious after having a baby :p

I did have a nice little Albanian place that would fit for a fiver a corner but it was burnt down, probably by the manager of the local kwik fit. Quite a few places get funny about you wanting to fit tyres you've bought off the internet and I've found it better to just go through Blackcircles.

That's complete nonsense, in most cases they make next to no money on the tyres you buy from them but do get nice cash incentives for the rubber recycled. In most cases, it's £20 for all four tyres without anyone saying anything about bringing your own

Unless prices have rocketed since, I bought 4 Conti SportContact2s for £60 or £65 per corner fitted last summer in that size... (can't remember if it was £240 total or £260)

Most cases? Lucky you! In the last few years I've run out of places that will fit for under £10 a tyre. It's a mix of £10-£15 a tyre or flat out refusal.

Same here. Theyre not interested and then youve got to rely on them to balance them properly or you have slow punctures and have to return endlessly for them to fit them properly.

Ive experienced that at three places, now ill just buy from a proper place that can fit tyres properly

Must be one of the advantages of living up north. No end to the amount of garages that will happily fit for £10 a corner

Yep, same here, although down south :) Have only recently gone to £20 for 4 tyres and, as I've been going there for tyres / balancing / tracking / alignment for the last 16 years, I get it for £15 :) They have absolutely no qualms about turning up with your own tyres.

Surely fitting and balancing some tyres is like day 1 at mechanic school

If a garage cant even fit and balance some tyres im not sure i would want to let them anywhere near the rest of the car!

no where near surrey (woking/guildford/dorking) is it? I need a couple of front tyres i bought fitted next month.

What garage is this? Mate lives near you and could do with some fitting.

no need to preach to me Jono, my cars only go to garages for MOTs and tyres.

As mental as it sounds, i will only have tyres fitted by one place, Elite in Rainham.

I swear i went for years where i didnt have a car without at least one leaky tyre or an imbalance, due to cheaping out and getting a garage to fit tyres they didnt supply. at first it was easy, then they all started to clam up or charge stupid money

Come off it, look at the mark up on the tyres compared to online outlets. This is from my own personal experience, so it's not really nonsense if it's happened to me

A friend of mine swears by Westlake. A Canadian firm who has it's hand in on the development of many new Premium tyres.

Having a blast around in his Alfa 147 GTA. I must say they gripped well in the wet, probably better than the old style Goodyear F1 Eagle GSD3's I have on my 156 in the dry.

I could pick up 4 x Westlakes in 16" for under £225 fitted. I will consider now I have tried next time around.

Why is it that recommendations for totally cheap tyres always come with some sort of qualification like this?

What on earth does it even mean? 'Had its hand in the development'?

'Hi yea is that Westlake? Yea it's Continental here. We are developing the new Contisport Contact 6, fancy giving us some help?'
