Bioshock 3 - Infinite

Combat is...eh....whats the best way to word this.......lacking.
Considering you shoot stuff for 70%+ of the game from what I could tell combat should be very polished and fleshed out but its not. You cant run out of ammo like...ever, if you do congrats you just won the game and the weapons are so bland, the same kind of boring crap we see in every game, a step back from bioshock 2.

Unless you hoover up ammo from vending machines every fight you can quite easily run out of ammo...

I do agree that the weapon selection is rather tame though. 2 hand guns, 2 shotguns, 2 mid range rifles, 1 semi auto rifle and 1 sniper rifle and 2 grenade launchers. Nothing quite like the Rivet Gun or the Harpoon.

I think its major step back there was the removal of ammo types which really did suck. No Anti-Personnel machine gun rounds? No armour piercing or high explosive rockets?

I thought they'd already announced how the DLC is going to work?

They'll fit it in 'seamlessly' (apparently) so you go through them as you play the game. Whether they actually pull it off without stupid introductions to DLC content is another thing entirely, but that is how I understood they'd do it.

And lol @C64 just listing a bunch of FPS games.

I like the idea of this, but at the same time I don't want to play through the game every time they release DLC, I guess I could play the individual section if there is an option to do so, but it might not give the full experience.

It also gives me that worrying feeling of leaving out content to allow for DLC, though in fairness the game felt complete and I certainly got value for money.

Why doesn't any game deserve 10/10? That makes no sense, if you can't give a game 10/10 then 9/10 is the highest score possible, so it's no different to 10/10 in the first place.

I agree that no game is 10/10 as in 100%, but if a game scores 95% or above and you're marking it out of ten, you can round it up.

Played this through the weekend and have some small points.

Story wise, ohmahgawd, easily the best part of the game and clearly what the game has been designed around, the game suffers slightly in my opinion due to this though, the game is beautiful and I enjoyed it throughout, but all the boring combat just disconnected everything....

There are the other little niggles here and there but they aren't worth mentioning....

Anyway yeh, its a great game one of the best of this year.

You have a selection of vigars to make use of and also Elizabeth can bring in items from alternate reality, this brings a great tactical element to the game. Plus riding around on those railings to survive sometimes is intense.

If feel some people would enjoy the combat if they played higher than easy difficulty. I really enjoyed the combat. I did start BioShock again last night and I do prefer the weapons but using your plasmids and gun appears to require a slight switch where infinite is more fluid.

The power of the modern hype machine wins the day on most big budget games from a major publisher :( they have the advertising muscle to ensure no-one dares give a poor review

Not true, while there are always mickey mouse sites that give 100% reviews, look at the scores cod black ops 2 got, despite its irrational hype machine and massive advertising budget, PC gamer gave it 71% which was about right.

Are you serious ?

half life 1
half life 2
counterstrike
call of duty
medal of honour
bioshock 1
bioshock 2
crysis
farcry
farcry 2
farcry 3
unreal tournament
doom
quake
quake 3
left4 dead 1 and 2
fallout 3
borderlands 1 and 2
soldier of fortune
arma II
battlefield series

I could go on and on and on about fps with better deeper gameplay mechanics but I cant be bothered anymore to argue with anyone that thinks the gameplay in this is good. You probably think mashing one button the whole way through a god of war game is good gameplay too.

I find the gunplay in games like serious sam and painkiller more satisfying and deep than this and that just says it all really.

He is my new favorite poster, almost everything he says is classic. please share more of your "infinite" wisdom.....

See what I did there ;)

Are you not the guy who collects gfwl titles just solely for that reason? Sorry could be wrong though. Anyway Aliens have big backing and that got god awful reviews. Dead space 3 was EA, fairly average reviews and the same with Crysis 3. Far from bad reviews but not the top marks BioShock is getting. Personally I feel BioShock is one is the best games I've played in years and if you didn't enjoy it then fair play.

It simply means it doesn't feel satisfying ie call of duty 2 etc doesn't feel satisfying to me whereas borderlands 1 and 2 or arma or countless other shooters I have enjoyed over the years do, it's got that horrible empty I'm just running about spraying at everything as best I can feel to it.And all the vigors feel weak and pointless.

There is no satisfaction killing enemies you are just volume shooting until they die and which gun you use doesn't even feel like it matters, best way I can describe what I mean is it feels like a serious sam or painkiller game.

I guess generic can just mean arcadey style shooter then as for me that's exactly what it feels like it feels like call of bioshock 3 black ops.

It's bland there's no character to the guns or gunplay it's just go to area spray everything until it dies open crates for food etc rinse repeat.

Are you joking? Did you upgrade the vigors? Did you use the vigors? Sounds like you missed out big time. Watch some of the YouTube videos of how many different ways you can use the vigors, for me this is one of the best things about the combat, there are so so many different ways you can use them, I experimented with them the whole way through my first play through but I'm still findings new and interesting ways to use them on my second playthrough.

How can you say Return to Sender is weak? It's clearly OP.

My personal favourites are the traps, you can make traps out of most of the vigors which adds yet another dimension.

The guns are clearly limited so that you have to use the vigors. You could just use the guns if you really want, but you'd be missing out big time. Each to their own I suppose.

He has clearly not played the game or if he has played it then with the purpose of trying to play in the style of a traditional shooter. Personally if I hadn't of used vigars I wouldn't have got very far. If anything some are actually over powered.

So you weren't able to follow the story and that makes it bad?

There seems to be a lot of that. That and people not even using the vigors and then wondering why their gameplay was lacking. Using the vigors, the gear and the skylines on Hard at full speed is fantastic fun.

Exactly, I love pure shooters like bad company2, but games like this, and dishonoured are just so much fun to play around with for a single player..

Ever wondered why they're kept as single player games then...?

People seem to throw up the same BS every time and rank it down hugely for it.
"The weapons arsenal is limited"
... Well, yeah of course it's limited; we have a bunch of what are basically magic spells to mess about with. I mean yeah it's a valid point, but what boring, banal idiot would prefer to have a large variety of weaponry over the ability to mix and match powers that make you feel unique and powerful on the battlefield...?

If you play the game like an average shooter then OFCOURSE it's going to feel repetitive and mediocre. Surely that's a given?

And as for those people who say the story is 'convoluted nonsense', I just feel sorry for you.

I haven't upgraded any vigors yet apart from Devil's kiss because I haven't had the cash (I've spent it mostly on the weapon upgrades).

Are there loads of vigor combos or something? Am I missing out? I remember in Bioshock you could get some pretty amazing combos going... shock in water then burn them for example. :D I've already had burning crows...
