'Hi I'm after an SL65 AMG Black Series. Do you have one?'
'No but I have a Smart ForFour Passion, ITS ALSO MADE BY MERC'

LOL, I just googled the smart for four thing and had to spit my drink out it was so funny :D

I got a similar shpiel from a mobile fitter who fitted eco contacts instead of premium contacts.. "they're exactly the same" he muttered, as he took them back of the rims and put my old tyres back on.

Why is it that recommendations for totally cheap tyres always come with some sort of qualification like this?

What on earth does it even mean? 'Had its hand in the development'?

'Hi yea is that Westlake? Yea it's Continental here. We are developing the new Contisport Contact 6, fancy giving us some help?'

For what it is worth,

With a history stretching back over 50 years, Westlake manufacture top quality tyres, confidently treading roads throughout Europe, North America and beyond. Manufactured in a state-of-the-art facility that has earned several awards, including recognition from the Economic Commission of Europe, Westlake tyres are internationally recognised for their superb quality, reliability and value for money.

Westlake substantially invest in R&D to constantly improve and expand their line of products, with strict quality control measures on each and every tyre. Westlake have also worked in collaboration with premium tyre manufacturers such as Goodyear and Yokohama, combining the latest in research, innovation and technology to ensure that product development results in truly superior tyre products.

Had some fitted to a car I bought once, can't remember which one though. I think they were Accelera Alpha. Seemed ok tread wise but I swapped them for Toyo T1-R's when the wheels were refurbished.

To save me from starting another tiresome thread, which cheapish tyres should I buy? Looking to spend around £70 a corner, need 4, size is 205 55 16.

Toyo Proxes T1-R
Kumho Ecsta Le Sport KU39
Pirelli P7 Cinturato
Dunlop SP Sport 01
Dunlop SP Sport FastResponse
Goodyear Eagle NCT5
Goodyear EfficientGrip
Bridgestone Turanza T001
Uniroyal RainExpert

Mostly want good wet braking, I've become slightly more safety concious after having a baby :p

Im after that size too, Im considering Pirelli P7C, Vredestein Sportrac or Cento, maybe Hankook S1 Evo

Current tyres have lasted an amazing 22k miles :D

I can only compare to my old Hankooks V12 but the new set of Vrederstein Cento has been great. Notibly quieter than the Hankooks, the ride is also softer but the bodyroll has not increased. It cost me £420 fitted last month, done about 400 miles in them so far in dry and wet. Grip has been excellent in both.

The Hankooks lasted 16kmiles, will be interesting how long these last.

size 17/45/205, stupid size tyres.

Those are pretty oddly sized wheels. Do they look something like this?

205 inch wheels, feel sorry for when you have to change those bad boys.
