GTX 670 or AMD 7970?

What's with all the pointless thread bumps of old threads? Trying to bait and troll Tommy or something?

Eh? I am trying to find overclocked comparisons on latest drivers for all cards to see what the difference is now and advanced search on ze forums returned that post. We know what it was back at 12.11 but there hasn't been much done recently and both sides have had a lot of driver releases...

You ain't that slick bud. Pull the other one :p

I am oil slick to be fair to me, but in truth, I'm interested in finding some up to date (ish) comparisons while overclocked on the latest drivers.

1080 and 1440. Let me know if you find some. If it's less antagonistic (for reasons I don't pretend to understand) then create a new thread :).

Thanks matey.

The stuttering still happens... on some drivers, in some games, in some circumstances. (BF3 - very rarely tho...)

Agreed, used to get stuttering in BF3 on my 680 on near enough every driver I tried, it was really annoying at times, especially if you were aiming, it seemed to happen for a few seconds every few minutes, lots of people reported the same over on guru3d. Never had a problem with my 7970, in fact the only game I've noticed stuttering was FIFA 13 but I fixed that by fiddling with a few in game settings.

Was it micro or more noticeable?

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Perhaps you could find some of the requested OC 670/670/7950/7970 results when you get the chance? Obviously low priority at the mo!

How are you getting on with your 7970? I didn't realise you had it already.

Noticeable, I had to use one of the 306 drivers to completely get rid of it but then I didn't have the performance benefits for the newer titles like Tomb Raider.

Enjoying it so far, completely changed my experience in Planetside 2 which apparently works better on Nvidia  been the total opposite for me as I can now participate in large battles without noticeable drops. Only have it clocked to 1150/1600 for now, if I go to 1200 on the core I get white artifacts in heaven although it still runs and completes. Any higher on the memory and I get the grey screen crash.

Yeah that sucks. I never got the infamous nVidia stuttering on my 680s but I can imagine how infuriating it would be.

What voltage you pumping through for 1200? Might need some more if temps are in check. Can also try a small bump in VRAM voltage to get you to 1700 ish.

Good to hear.

Is your card voltage locked?

Nope but the stock voltage on the Vapor-X cards seems to be 1.25, according to GPU-Z anyway, I don't think the low ASIC of 67% is helping. I'll eventually try giving it 1.3v and bumping the VRAM voltage but atm I'm very happy with performance.

I'd rather have low asic than high asic, aids overclocking.

Well... i already got an 7970 with 81% asic that would do 1250 on the core with 1.2V

the same way I got another 7970 that was 65% asic that would do 1200 with 1.3V

It still comes to the chip lottery of course. But low asic cards can take more voltage and generally will overclock more because of the extra voltage they can handle. Why do you think all the premium, expensive 7970 cards like the msi lightning are all low asic cards? ;)

High asic Tahiti cards won't like lots of voltage as they have a low default voltage. If they do accept lots of voltage, they will run very warm compared to low asic cards at high voltage.

You got rid of your 670, Stulid?

Nah, thats in its box, the 7970 is just "temporary" and has to go back when I'm done.

I may be a huge Nvidia fan, but I've played Crysis3/Tombraider and Bioshock on this 7970 and not had any complaints at all.

Yeah, my present card is quite possibly the best I've owned, but if I was buying now I'd most likely be looking for something like your using (7950 / 70).
