Is this sort of things bad in your area?

For the past few months now, we've been seeing regular posters, adverts and facebook(Yeah I know) stuff. All with regards to people having dogs stolen from their gardens.

I think I can recall atleast a dozen instances now.

Is it bad where you're living? I'm from Barnsley(Again, yeah I know) But it seems to be happening a lot in South Yorkshire.

People have said its for dog fighting, essentially these dogs are tied up, and used as bait for training other dogs. Which if thats the case, that's horrendous! :(

How do they know the dogs were stolen as opposed to running away? Did they see them being physically nicked? :o Id imagine the police would have noted if there were some kind of doggy napping epidemic going on

I have no idea how people can harm dogs :(

Just look at these faces:

I think if they weren't being stolen and were just going 'missing' then the police/RSPCA would be finding a lot more of these dogs either roaming around or dead having been hit by cars.

Makes sense they're either being stolen to be sold on or that they're being stolen as bait.

Fortunately I don't think it's a huge issue where I live.

few dogs stolen around this way too. However they were recovered and so on. Why on earth people do this I dont know and while people may disagree my Staffie is very defensive of our house I would be very surprised if he would part with anybody without a fight. Out in a field or so on then hes just a dopey pleb

My brother has a lovely new staffie, had it about 6 months and he's an adorable dog, daft as a brush. And I just cant imagine him being put in the position of being used as bait for a vicious dog thats been bred to fight. It's horrible.

And they're definitely not running away :p

I've spoken to a couple of other dog owners who have reported similar stuff.

One guy said a car pulled up and couple of guys jumped his brother and grabbed his staffy.
Another dog owner I chat to regularly in the local park told me the same thing happened there, only it was a young girl with a staffy this time. Pushed her over and chucked the dog in the car.

Absolute ********....

any new takeaways opened in your area recently?

as much as people will see that as a joke i know of half a dozen places that have been raided and had dog carcasses found in there bins. although this was in the late 80's early 90's it does happen.

Funny how almost everyone knows of at least one or two places that have been...funny....

Also funny how it never shows up in the news...funny....

Are the dogs that get "stolen" the type who sit tied-up in back gardens barking all day and night?

If so, they probably weren't "stolen."

don't these facebook things usually have a picture of some random chav/scally

message something like - 'Urgent message to all breeders, dogs homes etc.. This is Joe Bloggs he's wanted by the RSPCA, please do not let him have any dogs, he uses them for bait for dog fighting.'

few years ago you'd get a similar picture of some chav with a message 'Do not add Joe Bloggs he is a hacker, if you add him as a friend he will hack your account'

some people fwd made up stories on facebook

While I don't doubt dogs get kidnapped - these facebook fwd's are generally BS

Dog people are really weird. I mean the ones caught up in pure breeds are all that. Not uncommon at all for them to steal or kill other people's dogs out of jealousy or competition.
