firstly, disclaimer of sorts, SEE SPOILER

I'm no expert in this field. i put this together from my week+ of research & deciding on which of the following i should follow:
current monitors
SA950D
hp lp2475w

29 + my current monitors
27 1440p + current monitors
3x 27 1440p
3x 29" 21:9

this thread is mainly based on games as resolution doesn't help general browsing, but would help multitasking

this was mainly for me but i know some are looking for these too

21:9

Pros
  1. High "FOV" see slightly more horizontal vision with space pixel resolution "2560" and only lose small vertical space (sky? maybe building)
  2. Lot Less likely to require 2nd Card for Ultra Settings
  3. 21:9 i believe would give nice immersion due to 29"
  4. less square looking (had 30" 2560x1600) it was so square looking it was annoying didn't feel wide-screen felt 4:3

Cons
  1. more desk space used
  2. 29" 2560x1080 is less PPI might not be as crisp as 1440p 27"
  3. price is close to 1440p
  4. not all games support 21:9 (sometimes ui stays in middle) i believe ui is a + though

mediocre
  1. dont know what monitor would watch it height wise for 3 screen solution? 29+ 2x 24? maybe

16:9
Pro
  1. more vertical space
  2. normal aspect for games
  3. higher ppi (cripser image?)
  4. resolution on desktop might benefit multitasking
  5. less desk space used

Cons
  1. would most likely require 2nd card when new games come out for "ultra"
  2. "FOV" is less than 21:9
  3. more sqaure of a monitor
  4. price is close to 21:9 but higher pixel density so possibly a pro.

shown difference between 21:9 vs 16:9

if you can think of anything or want to correct me on anything please feel free.

I don't see any point at all in 29" 21:9 monitors...

When 27" 1440p monitors gives you the same amount of horizontal pixels/space and 34% more vertical pixels/space...

its mainly for movies no black bars
:D

also i believe 21:9 gives you more horizontal view over 16:9 even though the resolution is the same

I personally hope this design falls flat, i have a tv for watching movies and the last thing i want is even more pixels removed from my desktop; now if they made it 1600 vertical and expanded the horizontal resolution accordingly...that i'd be interested in.

This is correct. Also some people just like the panoramic 'feel' to their games and movies. This thing is physically (marginally) wider than a 30" 16:10 monitor which some people like. It's only about as tall as a 23" 16:9 though.

im thinking of goinng 21:9 pcm2 from sa950d

because i believe 1440p wil be to demanding for games in the future and require sli/xfire which i dont want again.

which 21:9 monitor would you say takes the 1st place

ive seen dell Phillips and lg. so far Dell looks the best spec wise (inputs)

I like em, if im correct a 29" 21.9 is like 1 1/2 23" 16.9 monitor, i think for me to buy then it needs to be a bit bigger, mabe 30" so that it would equate to a 1 1/2 24" monitor

The Dell seems to be really solid and would probably be one of my first choices. I'm also interested to see how the NEC EA294WMi turns out and the AOC q2963Pm. They're due out in May. The AOC will hopefully offer flexible pixel overdrive options, something that the Dell lacks. And I'm not sure what happened to the ASUS MX299Q - maybe that will emerge soonish too.

might be worth waiting then?

however

nec's are normally lot more expensive.
aoc are they any good i thought they was cheap brand like DGM?
Asus would like to see though

so if i want a 2nd 3rd monitor to match it nicely together i need around 23" (so there in line with each other)

AOC are smaller and less well known. They tend to focus on low-cost models but they don't cut any extra corners here. In fact the overall quality and attention to detail on many of AOC's recent offerings has been impressive. The image quality and little extras have been better for the price than equivalent offerings from ASUS and LG, for example. They always seem to set things up rather well and provide the flexibility you need in the OSD without too many annoying gimmicks (read: presets). I'm currently reviewing their i2369Vm and I have been really impressed by many crucial aspects of it. Better than the LG IPS237L and comparable to the much more expensive MX239H (minus the sound quality). They even gave it a DisplayPort which is pretty much unheard of for a sub £140 monitor.

The RRP of the NEC is £485 so it will be comparable to the Dell in that respect.

Cheers, I shall look at the NEC, only benefit with the dell it might be easier to find something to match the external design and size

Dell don't do a 23 inch monitor do they? Maybe 20 inch in portrait mode would match the 2913wm ?

Sounds like a plan. Yes the U2312HM might be a good match.

Any ideas if the LG 29EA93-P or any other 21:9 monitor support Xbox or PS3 via HDMI? I found one video online of a Phillips 21:9 HDTV but I would like to know how it is with the monitors.
