My wife is looking at a 2012 swift sport and it seems a nice little car well spec'd etc. Thought the insurance world be high for her but it's the same as her micra. Anyone have one any ideas what they are Like etc.

Only your wife can decide if she likes it or not, arrange a test drive. I haven't driven one myself, but from what I hear they're good fun to throw around on A/B roads, but not brilliant on motorways etc.

I haven't driven one and you should definitely take a test drive - that is half the fun of buying.

Many magazines rave about its handling and value for money. It sounds like you may be "borrowing" it more than you think.

Other interesting 'hot hatches' are the little Fiat Abarths

I had the old one and now have the new model and its a million times better.
I can get at least 40mpg on motorway and 36mpg around town but drops down to high 20's when having a bit of B road fun.

Hi...

I bought a new SSS at the back end of last year.

They are great little cars. Not the fastest thing in a straight line, but the handling is pretty amazing. Brings a smile to my face every time that I drive it and I'd probably have to go right back to the early 80's and the first of the Alfasud's that I bought for a similar feeling.

I've owned a fair few cars over 40+ years motoring (including 3 WRX's) so I have a fair motoring history.

Not being daft here... there are plenty of faster cars and dare I say it "better looking". But as a B-road blast, in this size / category, I don't think there is anything to beat it at this price point. And heresy I know, but I would rate it over a Mini Cooper (one of a number of motors that I tried before deciding on the Swift).

I would agree with Scooby Wr1 regarding fuel economy. Pretty much spot on what I've found. Just don't believe the ludicrously optimistic trip meter.

Plus points:
- Reasonably nippy.
I would go as far as saying that it feels quicker to 60 than Suzuki quote.
- The handling is sublime. Suzuki have achieved (in my opinion) what a lot of manufacturers try and don't achieve. A small car that handles well but has a decent level of ride quality. Step forward my Ibiza Cupra on how not to achieve this!
- ESP not very intrusive (and you can switch it completely off should you wish). You would need to be on a loose surface, or driving VERY hard for it to step in. And when it does interfere, it's quite gentle (if that's the right word!). In my opinion, a testimony to how well balanced / handling the car is.
- Very good level of equipment.
- Not too bad at motorway speeds noise wise.
- Japanese, so should be reliable. Very few complaints on either of the O/L owners clubs.
- Certain rarity value on the road (well at least round by me). Think I've only seen two other new model SSS's.
- Tiff Needell likes them (if you count this as a + point of course).

Negative points (not many really):
- Difficult access to the rear seats (IE. front seats do not go back to the set position).
- Small boot.
- Take a careful look at the paint job when buying. As the paint finish on some cars are not that great. I actually rejected the first car that I looked at because of this. Even my current car has a couple of very minor blemishes. Though you can only see them when the car is polished (and I am being VERY picky here).
- A few minor cabin niggles (besides the seat not going back to their set position when letting someone into the rear).
Eg. why only auto down on the drivers window? If I put it down in one, might I not want to put it up!?

PS. You should be able to get around £800 off if you haggle. Probably not much more than that, as the car isn't that expensive to start with. But good luck if you can.

Cheers guys the deal they offered on pcp was not to bad but my friend is a car trader and he is going to ring a few of his Suzuki dealers up and see what deal he can get me. The wife likes it in red as do I so that colour will be what we have. What are the xenon headlights like on these are they bi xenon or just normal xenons.

The headlights are meant to be amazing, I believe they are HID in the swift sport though!

Don't know what type of xenon they are but they shocked me at just how bright they are.
Using main beam on an unlit road is just like the sun coming back out.

To be honest, the car looks pretty good in any of the five colours. Red was my first choice. But decided on silver in the end. Just have a VERY good inspection of the paint finish, especially if choosing a solid colour (EG. blue/red). One of the few complaints on the owners forum/s is slight "orange peel", especially noticeable on the red. Not all cars appear effected. But the one I originally looked at was red and that was most noticeable under the bright showroom lights.

As to the headlights. They are genuine HID and probably about as good as any car I've ever driven.

Have fun...

PS. This is one description I've seen in a CAR review of the lights:

"high-intensity discharge projector lamps. They're a kind of poor man's xenons, using similar electrical-gas discharge technology but at a more affordable price."

I'm ocd with paint work anyway so it will be getting a very good inspection with my sun light. I think I will put the mileage up to 12k if we do pcp to be on the safe side.

I really like the looks of these. Cracking value. What do you reckon you can haggle them down to for a new one? 12.5k?

Have you taken a test drive in a Renaultsport Twingo in Liquid Yellow they look very nice?

They are excellent cars along with the SSS, the big positive over the SSS is the 6 Speed box. Definatly worthy checking out though , I test drove the previous version before buying the non facelift RS Twingo as i felt the handling was superior but thats my opinion .
