Hey guys

Overclocked my MSI TF3 7950 boost edition from 960/1250 to 1150/1575, Metro 2033 and Crysis 3 saw a 8-12 fps boost but for some reason BF3 multiplayer stays the same? anyone know why? i know multiplayer is quite cpu intensive.

Thanks

BF3 multiplayer can be CPU limited even with an overclocked intel chip. If you're playing 64 player servers and your chip is stock then you'll easily be running out of CPU grunt. You can turn up the AA or detail to work your GPU harder though. Or clock the nuts off your CPU.

I saw my minimum fps go up noticeably in battlefield 3 multiplayer when i went from a 2500k to a 2700k with hyper threading.

I'm running BF3 on Ultra settings 4x msaa and HBAO @1080p so can't really go much higher haha:D but you're right about cpu i noticed a noticeable difference going from a 955be to the 8350.

So only means of increasing the fps really is to oc the cpu?

At stock, my 3570k bottlenecked a bit, (gtx 670 @ 1310/7560). Clocking the cpu to 4.5ghz helped a great deal, though minimum fps were still lower than my old i7 [email protected].

Suprised at that actually the 3570k is a great cpu!

Well as d_brennen said i better get clocking. I think a new cpu cooler is in order, clock this baby up a bit!

Your 670 clocks like a beast.
Aye, not a bad card mate. It'd probably go a bit higher with the modded 1.2v bios. But i cba to flash it.:o

The 3570k is still a very good cpu, the bottleneck at stock speed wasnt very signifigant. However, as LtMatt has stated. Bf3 runs with better minimum frame rates on an i7, due to it being one of a few games that utilise hyperthreading. The 2700k and the i7 920 being two examples of hyperthreaded chips. The difference is even more pronounced when using dual cards in sli/xfire.

The 8350 does shine in BF3, even if it turns out that your CPU isn't bottlenecking, a decent clock on the 8350 and you will get a nice performance boost anyway.

Cheers mate would 4.4-4.5ghz be a good one? Need a decent air cooler and one that would fit my case any recommendations?

Furnishing a computer forum with your computer specifics would be advantageous before asking subjective questions :p

i run 6000x1200 eyefinity with BF3 with 2 7950's oc'd with a gigabyte bios to 1000/1375.

I also run 3770k @ 4.5 and when I up the core/mem above those figures it makes stuff all difference, if not losing a few fps..... :(

99% of people using a fx-8350 on a good motherboard should be able to hit 4,4-4,5ghz on air using something like a cooler master 212 evo or better. Currently running 4,5ghz (220x20,5) and BF3 full 64 mp servers never seems to go below 70ish and more often than not roam on the 90-100ish+ side (@1080p with everything set to ultra or maximum possible setting).

Should be noted that i use the command "renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit" set to 1 in the console.
