HI all

I bought the zalman z9 plus case the other day and it came with 4 fans

1. on top
1. on side
1. at front
1. at back

but the case can support upto 7 and that's what id like to do, install 7 fans.

now id like to buy more of the zalman fans what are already installed in the case, you know so I don't have all differebnt makes of fans inside.
but if anybody can recommend any fans that will benefit me more then the zalman ones please let me know

anyway iv tried searching online for the same zalman fans installed but I cannot find them where I can buy, can anybody help here.

This is my current set-up which I find works well, although I have ditched the fan on the side panel as it was very noisy there.

I have also cut the mesh off the fans as it improves airflow and makes them quieter.

And a 140mm Apache Black fan in the front, which shifts a lot of air. That's the only extra fan I have and it's plenty :)

I have the same setup apart from the top fan (120mm exhaust) as I can't seem to get the top of the case off..

The manual isn't exactly very clear, and I don't want to be too forceful.

Any help/advice?

Theres 8 plastic tabs you have to push in at the top of the case to release the top panel (you have to remove the side panels to get at them)

@Andy mk3

you know the antec h20 620 watercooling system you have, on your diagram is shows teo fans on the rear.im guessing one is the originals zalman 120mm that came with the case then the other is one which is with the water cooling system am I correct.

also I bought this PSU for my case NO COMPETITOR LINKING!

but its too big, it overlaps 2 of the screw holes for a fan on the bottom, is that going to cause me any problems by not having a fan on the bottom as id like one

and the zlman z9 plus doesn't come with a dust filter for the PSU grills

Just say the name of the PSU ;p (by the link still there I'm guessing its a XFX)
Anyway to answer your question, no it wont cause any problems, the bottom fan is optional.
As long as you have more intake fan than exhaust, your fine.
If you are worried about dust getting into your power supply, you can just flip it over so the fan is sucking air from the case.
As long as your case has good airflow it wont cause any problems.

Yeah I was aware of the tabs, but wasn't sure what way they had to be pushed/pulled etc.

Hate being too forceful, last thing I want is something breaking. though ideally could do with a top fan for exhaust!

@ andy mk3

although your system setup works well,

do you think if I did go ahead and install 3 more to make it 7 in total it would make my system cooler

although I know it will increase the noise a little

you know the fans what are already installed can yo buy them from anywhere as iw want 3 xtra fans to be the same as them if they are indeed good fans

i wish to use the same fans as i need them to have 3 pin connctors on them as well as if anybody can correct me i im wrong but, say i have 2fans on the side. i can connect both upto one fan header on the motherboard so i can control them both with fan xpert.

or if anybody thinks i should replace all the fans in the case with better onces so i have all 7 the same please tell me what fans are better if any

hi @ andy mk3 as you can see my PSU covered or nearly covers 2 of my fan screw holes but I wish to place a fan here, is their any low profile fans I can get which are good enough for here.

if I put an extra fan on this side, do you think my case would just be noisy as anything, inprove cooling or make it worse as iv heard side fans disrupt the airflow. so should I just remove this fan and put it elsewhere, hence maybe on the top or something

I'll try and break this up a bit to make it clearer :D

On the rad for my Antec cooler, I have a Zalman fan either side of it. The other one is in the top of the case. And the black and white fan is at the bottom.

I can only just get my fan in with my PSU, but yours looks like it's miles too big and you probably wont get one in there unless you drill some new holes to bolt it in. It won't be the end of the world if you can't get one in though.

and the zlman z9 plus doesn't come with a dust filter for the PSU grills

They're not needed either really, my PSU sucks in air from the bottom and blows it out the back. It's had a few thousand hours of use and still perfectly clean inside :)

I'm not sure if it will make a huge difference really. I can't fit another fan at the top because of the motherboard.I'm not sure if you can buy the same fans, I've never really looked though. Personally I think 5 fans is plenty enough for this sized case.

i wish to use the same fans as i need them to have 3 pin connctors on them as well as if anybody can correct me i im wrong but, say i have 2fans on the side. i can connect both upto one fan header on the motherboard so i can control them both with fan xpert.

You can get a Y-splitter which means you can connect 2 fans to one connector.

See above about the PSU and fan.

I'd not bother with a side fan, I found it was VERY noisy and increased temps a little bit too.

Here's some more pics of mine which may help.

thank you @andy_mk3 ye id like to see if I can search for a low profile fan of some sort,

you know our case obviously the fans are 3 pin aint they apart from the black and white one, can these be controlled by my motherboard which is the asus sabertooth z77 using xpert 2 software, or do I have to buy 4 pin fans or isit possible to use a 3pin - 4 pin convertor

You should be able to control them to a certain extent. 4 pin fans are PWM which allows a much greater and more accurate amount of control.

ah right ok, if I cannot find the same fans already installed is their any you could recommend.
im going to have alook see if I can get a low profile fan for the bottom, maybe I could push my PSU towards the back a few mm

after iv sorted them fans out, when I get my cpu which I want the i5 3570k iv been looking for a cooler but I don't know what to get can you recommend one for me

Prolimatech Genesis CPU Cooler - I like the look of this but what do you think

and thank you for all your help so far

Hi andy mk3 thank you for all your help so far.

Im ordering 5 corsair sp120 performance edition fans next week for my case as these are 4pin PWM fans.
What would you recommend me set them up as as this is what Im thinking

2 x top of case
2 x side of case,
1 at front

Which ones do you think I should have as intake and exhaust

Just letting you know il be having my corsair h80i radiator n fans for the back
