CIT power supply exploded

CIT with an overclocked FX8150?

I hope you don't build PC's for other people.

Gotta love the way he combined a high end AMD rig with an underrated entry level PSU, blew it up, then immediately took to the internet bashing the manufacturer and advising people to stay clear of their entire product line :P

It hurts to think of the FX8150 as high end.
One of the worse CPU product launches I've ever witnessed, what was it at launch, over 200 quid?

I currently have a non branded 500w psu, it might be branded never checked as i took it from my last pc but i've now noticed in HW monitor.....it doesnt have a 5v.......it only has a 3.3v......is my pc going to be ok or do i just have an old PSU

ya because they do say on the front of the power supply "Not compatible with Piledriver CPU's"

seriously if your going to criticize me at least say something worthwhile.
and where did I "Bash" the Brand? I said is it not a health and safety hazzard that they are known for this type of failure. and is there something wrong with advising people so they wont make the same mistake I did? of course there is, were not all as godly gifted as you are, seriously do ya honestly think you are special or something? maybe you are;)

got forbid anybody makes a mistake here:rolleyes:

@martin,ya you going blind:D ah ya its a 8350, I'm happy with it tho and it works well for what I use it for so dont really care what kind of a launch it was, it was a pretty reasonable price on it too. and yup this is my first build

Here:

well this is just a warning to people to BUY a DECENT power supply with your setup!!
I really dont understand how they are still allowed to sell these with known problems like this, surely this is a health & safety issue no?
well I'd be glad to settle with this happen me if it helps deter it from happening again and destroying other people's components.

to anyone who may use some bit of performance from their machine, and has one of these psu, Invest in a decent psu, you have been forewarned :D

Ill apologise if I came off arrogant or offensive, however it annoys me when people diss products/brands for erroneous reasons, if you had asked on here beforehand you would have been told that PSU was insufficient for the system and would fail under load. I have personally built/upgraded many many systems using CiT PSU's as well as many other types and in my experience they are as just as reliable as the likes of Antec or FSP, they are a cheap entry level brand and in no way shape or form near the level of Seasonic/Enermax/Delta or their re-sellers, but they are also significantly better than bargain basement budget PSU's.

It is actually on the side of the PSU, on the pages of most places selling it, and probably on the box too. However instead of English its written in math, again all you had to do was ask.

I wouldn't even trust that PSU to power £100 worth of low-power requirement used hardware to be honest. Not after the experiences I have had with rubbish PSU's in the past. Its not just the fact that they can't provide the rated wattage, the voltage is all over the place and they are generally unstable.

I might consider using one to test a fan or to leak test a watercooling loop though :p

are these the PSUs that come in those £30 cases? when you consider how much even the cheapest case is, that doesn't leave much for the PSU.

i nearly forgot to post my pun: cit happens.

to be fair, unless you hang around on dedicated hardware forums, it's not the sort of thing you just know when building a PC. i know the first time i put a pc together, i'd never been on an a forum. i remember buying some horrible beige case with included PSU. it did me alright actually. :p

it's only when i encountered a few unrelated problems with the build that i stumbled across forums like this one. and then of course you soon learn how important a decent PSU is.
