Just read this on Google news front page, left speechless. I know rapes happen all over the world but the level of barbarism in the manner of the rapes coming from India are just astonishing. God knows what’s going on through these types of people’s minds when doing such horrible things, can’t even imagine it, a 5 year old girl.

A five-year-old girl was raped, battered, had a plastic bottle and candles shoved into her vagina and was left to die in a locked room in east Delhi by her 25-year-old neighbour before she was discovered two days later, lying in a pool of her own blood.

What’s making my blood boil though is this

When her father went to the police for help, they gave him R2,000 to hush up the matter.

That's around £25, not that the amount matters what so ever.

While i see hope coming from the protests and people fighting for change, it seems like an institutionally top down attitude to cover up such atrocities instead of dealing with the issues.

utterly awful but (and i could be way off here) the fact that the police offered cash to make this go away, makes me wonder just how often things like this do 'go away' in india.

wasn't there a mass protest over the high levels of rape and lack of action in india last year after a woman was gang raped on a bus...

OP, I'm loving the casual racism shown in your take on this awful thing which happened. Is it because they believe in a different god to you?

And btw "these people" is at the same time both hilariously inappropriate and tragically repetitive.

That's what you get when your country gains independence.

In the days of the empire we would have hushed it up much better and no one would have known.

Hmm, maybe as a species we don't deserve to survive.
The cylons might have been right.

It is an awful event, and events such as this can happen anywhere in the world.
A few years ago a grandfather was in court in Northern Ireland for apparently raping or penetrating his 18month old granddaughter, who I believe subsequently died. Problems with the medical investigations etc I think led to the case not being convicted.

There are sick people in ever society, I am sure through history there always were. I just can't understand the attitude of the police. Better for them to be seen to actually do something rather than not investigate. Awful it took two days to find a missing five year old also.

I'm sorry but i'm not really sure what you're on about. Maybe you should have a re-read and quote "these types of people's" aka rapists.

To be honest i'm just going to ignore you and your attemps of derailing threads. Not really in the mood to argue with you after reading that article.

What are you on about?

I see no racism here, go take your troll remarks to another thread.

back on the original topic, It's horrific, but I cannot see it changing quickly, judging by the police actions corruption is embedded in the system.

What will be interesting is to see what repercussions the responsible police members/force receive. If they get a slap on the wrist this **** will continue, they need to be sacked, prosecuted and jailed for obstructing the course of justice, which will send out a strong message to other police forces around the country. I fear that because of the spot light these officers will be punished, but without it, it may be business as usual.

I saw this sort of post from the OP in another thread and questioned whether he happened to have Pakistani ancestry...

I'd assume from his angry reply to the question that he probably does... though he then accused me of being racist for asking the question... hilarity ensued and I believe most of the subsequent posts were deleted...

i also think the same more and more tbh

Whats even worse is the girl (if i've read correctly) was left to die in a pool of blood in the same building she lived in with her family. The bare minimum response from the police would have been to search the building, instead her family had to do it 48hours later and all that time the girl was there

On Thursday evening when the girl’s parents were in the hospital, a policeman in uniform accompanied with a man in plainclothes approached them. They took them outside and then the policeman slipped Rs.2,000 into the pocket of the girl’s father, asking him not to share the incident with anyone. He also threateningly told the father that it was the police which would ultimately come to their help, and not others,” the uncle added.

Sick, but lets detract from it and start spouting the racism card at OP

I'm sure this stuff goes on a lot more than we hear about.

If I've misread this then I'll say no more.

I don't think I've misread this.

Mag you were accusing me of being racist earlier. Perhaps you should lay off the accusations a bit?

Let the reader decide if there is implied racism or not. We don't really need you to keep shouting "racist!" in every post. Almost as bad as HurfDurf and his "rape apologist!" crusade :D

Well he does seem to have an issue with Indians so I think there is more to this than a typical... 'look what I read on on the news isn't it awful guys' RSS feed type thread

In the previous thread about a rape in Rio he decided to mention some unrelated Indian rape and refer to Indians as animals... then got angry when questioned about it.

Maybe he's really concerned about issue in India but its not that far fetched to question whether the OP has an agenda here or perhaps dislikes India for some reason.

Unfortunately such incidents are not confined to India but are widespread all over the world including our country. The response from the police though well that's a different story.

India does seem to have a problem at the moment but it is under the spotlight. However, I know of equally horrific cases in this country that have not hit the press for a variety of reasons.

Earlier implies that I am not currently doing so.

I don't do this but it's telling that you imagine this to be the case. I said I won't have further input and I'll honour that. Have fun.

You've completely made this up, where was he racist? Is mentioning a foreign country racist now? Stop trying so hard and you'll come across as less of a ******.

'These types of people' are rapists, not darkies.
