Tell her it was on sale and was 25-40% off so it was an opportunity you couldn't pass up. Normally works for me.

Just get a bit philosophical with her saying life is short we should enjoy life while we can and you can't take things with you, then " I bought another watercooled 7970" that should work.

That would work ok until she saw the £840 on the credit card bill! but it will buy me some time uintil i can think of a better reason!
