Bricked 7970 Options

does that card have a dual bios switch? itll be by the crossfire bridge tabs,if so try flicking to the backup bios,if it shorted theres a possibility its borked the bios and you can boot from the backup one

that clouding lookslike finger prints/marks to me?

Yeah if it can't run the gpu correctly,it would bootloop

I could kiss you right now!
Holy ****ing poo its only gone and booted!

Ooooo:eek: you lucky b:p

you might be able to reflash the borked bios but I wouldn't be too fussed now its working!!

Cant believe it tbh.

Ive updated drivers and it seems to be back to normal. In fact its running cooler than before! Crazy. I did lose some VRM pads though and never replaced them.... so i dont know whats happening there

After a Heaven Valley Benchmark. Preset: Extreme HD.
Overclocked to 1125/1575

Thing is i just ordered another 7970 earlier this evening......

you can cancel your order no probs

I think you can reflash the bad bios too but not sure how with dual bios's,last gpu I flashed was a 5870

you'd need to visit techpowerup bios archive and get the same vtx bios and reflash using winflash or ati tool or you could just leave it as it is,but should the same thing happen youd have to boot from onboard graphics and try to recover it

vrm temps look ok,core is a little on the hot side? idk maybe a repaste?

Well its with a decent overclock and 72c is maximum it would go on Heaven Valley Extreme preset. Its slightly cooler than before.
I do have the reference cooler on not the Accelero

Dont know if i should have another go at the accelero.
Ive ordered a new 7970 and think im going keep it and see what xfire is all about and maybe push for a 1440p monitor soon

Delighted for you Gelly. So what the hell was up before then? Are you going to try the accelero again, or are you out of the game for good and taking early retirement? Let me tell you, something always drags you back in.

Thanks Matt but tonight i try to boot and nothing again! I removed the card and still nothing, So i decide to jump start my PSU and nothing. So my PSU has died, i wonder if it was the PSU all along slowly dieing? I dunno but im getting slightly chewed with it all now

could be,or the shorting gpu damaged your psu in some way? idk,rma it if its still in warranty

It must have done. PSU is completely dead, tried jumping it and nothing and then put a spare crappy 450w in and it boots all the time every time.

I know no one cares but got in touch with overclockers on monday about PSU RMA, they issued me a ticket and offered to pick it up tuesday, nice.
They recieved the dead PSU today and sent a new one which i will recieve tomorro! Amazing service if you ask me. I thought it would take weeks but 3 days?!
Thanks overclockers i really do appreciate it :)

they arranged for the pickup of the psu ? , when did they start doing that ?

Reading this thread I feel relieved for you Gelly, it's a horrible, gut-wrenching feeling when you modify your PC in some way and it won't boot after, particularly when an expensive piece of kit is involved. Manic relief when the problem's solved though.
