Would a Phenom II 1055T @ 3.5GHz bottleneck a 7950?

Question is in the title really.

Pretty set on getting a 7950 now, but worried whether my 1055T @ 3.5GHz will bottleneck it?

Think of getting a FX-8350 while the sale is on.
I know I should wait until Steamroller, but waiting isn't a strong point of mine...

Depends on the game, but it should be fine until Steamroller. Can you overclock the CPU further? If I remember correctly the X6s could easily reach 4 GHz.

I bought as part of a package overclocked to 3.8GHz, but I've changed the motherboard and either due to that or more likely my own lack of knowledge I've not been able to get it to 3.8GHz on the new motherboard.

What is your NB speed? If 3.5ghz is you CPU limit then you can get further gains from NB overclock. You should be able to get 2.6 without voltage bump. Although uping the NB voltage should give you more CPU over clock as well. What's your motherboard?

I'm using the Asus M5A99X EVO (Rev 1).
Currently NB is 2000MHz.

My overclocking method isn't very advanced, I basically just set the FSB to 250 and left everything else at auto.

I tried bumping it up to 275 and 285 this morning (leaving everything at auto) and 275 hung loading Windows and 285 BSOD loading Windows.

Running Prime95 my VCore goes up to 1.224V according to CPU-z (@ 3.5GHz).
Memory is Corsair Vengeance LP running at 1666MHz @ 1.5V.

Your CPU voltage is very low, you can go up to 1.5V if you have a good cooler. Try bumping it to 1.3V. If you have an option for Load Line Calibration set it to high also.

Mate you could get way more out of the Phenom you have, these Thuban chips can overclock upwards 4ghz and beyond no problem really. And you shouldn't have a problem with the mobo you have either.

The motherboards NB should beable to do 2600mhz no problem, albeit with a little increase on the voltage.

You should be safe upto around 1.55 volts on the CPU, just keep an eye on the temps, I've got a dual core denab chip unlocked to quad running @ 4ghz on 1.55v keeps under 55c on a £25 Zalman cooler downstairs!

But anyway's you shouldn't get any bottlenecks with it, especially if you push the overclock a little.

You should probably try to push the overclock, it will probably give you the speed increase that would keep you happy long enough untill an upgrade to be really worth while!

First thing I would try is a FSB of 240mhz and a Multiplier of 15.5 @ 1.5v, giving a clock speed of 3720mzh ... Should give you the option of 2400mhz on the Northbridge aswell. Like mentioned make sure you have Load Line Calibration to extremel. I think you should boot at that setting no problem, and be perfectly stable. I would then look into getting as much out of the voltage setting as possible. Just make sure you keep an eye on the memory speeds in the bios, keep them in workable range!

1055t has locked multiplier at 14?
But yes CPU intensive games will benefit from nb over clock.
Turban 95w won't need as much voltage. I have 960t unlocked to x6. I can get 3.5ghz at 1.375v, and 3.9ghz at 1.45v.
NB at 2.5ghz at stock volts, 2.8ghz 1.3v and 3ghz at 1.4v.

Turn off all cool n quite stuff and turbo. Also keep HTT link at 2000.
Let us know how it goes.

You'll get bottlenecks, that's for sure at your current clock.
Has anyone here ever ran a 7950 with a Phenom II at 3.5GHZ?

It'll be playable though :p

1055t and "upwards of 4GHz easily" does not compute. 4GHz is a fairly substantial milestone for the 1055t in my experience

My 1055T was happiest at 250Mhz bus clock which gave 3500MHz. could have gone a bit more I suppose on the 890 Chipset, I was a bit ram limited at the time. I have a 6950 which did not bottleneck as far as I remember, depends on the resolution and game settings though.

I had a secondhand 1090T after at 3.8GHz, then the FX8350 at 4.7GHz which gives 99-100% GPU in all that I have tried (1920 x 1200, single HD6950).

OK, managed to get to 3.82GHz (272 x 14, although ends up more like 272.9 x 14) with a VCore (in CPU-z) of 1.296V.
I'm using Offset for VCore as I like it to downclock when idle. All other Voltages are Auto.
Using 272MHz FSB has the annoyance that the speeds of my RAM, NB and HT are all over the place. RAM is set to run at something like 1490 as the next step up is 1800+ and I don't think Corsair Vengeance is great for overclocking. NB is 2200+ cuz I wasn't sure what I should aim for so kept it close to 2000. HT is 1910MHz as again it was the closest to 2000 I could get.

It ran Prim95 Small FFTs for over an hour and socket temp got to around 52ºC max at the time I stopped it.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Might try to bump up the NB to the next option.
Tempted to go for 4GHz as this'd make the HT 2000 again. I imagine I'd need quite jump in voltage though and that'd raise the temps.

Currently only using a CM Hyper 212+ to cool it. and in case it makes a difference I'm reasonably sure it's the 95W version of the 1055T.
