Just been given my p60 as we are being made redundant and have noticed I am on br tax code

I have been on this a year as I just been through my payslips.

So is this going to be difficult to sort out? I gather I need to call hmrc.

damn.. sorry to hear this!

Call tax office ASAP... even quicker to go and see them. They should sort you out a refund.

Get down the job centre asap and sign on though... I hated doing it the one time I had to, but it takes about 4 weeks to get their act in gear, so do it quick.

It's ok I have a new job coming that is better so no worries there

So not to difficult getting it back then? I'm not in a rush tbh.. Just didn't want to lose it!
I just worked it out, wow, it does mount up!

Yes it is a good way of saving!

You'll get a rather hefty refund! They usually come though quite quickly - they are pretty good these days :)

I think I have over paid a few thousand^^

Quick would be nice as i can put some towards an engagement ring, if it's slow is ok too

Phone HMRC, check that they have your P14 (the P60 your employer sends to them), though the deadline isn't until 31st May, so they may not have it yet.

If you let it ride, it probably won't be corrected until September/October time, so if you phone and request it, you get bumped to the top of the queue. Reimbursements are currently taking between 4-6 weeks according to the convo I had with them this morning.

No I didn't at all, was only when I was checking through I noticed, if the company didn't fail I dunno when I would've noticed

I'll phone them up, otherwise I will forget about it.

I dunno how it happened

Even if you haven't noticed they would send you a refund next year, that's how I found out couple of years ago myslef. My girlfriend just received around £400 and they even added some interest think at 0.5%.

Good to know. I've never had a rebate before so quite excited!

Probably going to be at same time as redundancy pay too

If you have only been on it a year then you won't have overpaid a few thousand, it will be around £1620

Wouldn't it depend on earnings?

BR means that he has not been receiving any personal allowance. While it is true that there is a threshold at which you erode your entitlement to a personal allowance, it is unlikely to apply in this case i would say :)
