*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

RE kona786 @ 10.46:

The Z has by far the worst screen of the 3 in those pictures. Admittedly the One and S4 are too close to call in the head on photo at least but the viewing angles speak for themselves, S4!

Edit - my mistake

SAMOLED wins imo, but it is too hard to tell by that second pic as the camera is focused solely on the GS 4 thus looks much better.

Personally I don't expect there to be "much" difference in terms of viewing angles (except when it comes to blacks), certainly nothing to worry about anyway, haven't used either phones yet but with the one X screen, it was just as good as SAMOLED and the one screen seems to be even better.

Shame that HTC didn't make the speaker areas smaller and reduce the bezel, not to mention had a better button/logo arrangement and that hard home button on the GS 4 just annoys me and then the Z is just a rectangle slab with a bland front design :p Please let the X have an excellent design overall!

The Z screen is just awful, why on earth didn't Sony just keep the bravia engine enabled throughout the UI rather than just the gallery/media player

YAY... Got a call from my O2 mate this morning he'd kept 2 S4's back for me so I've a new Black one and the Mrs has a white one.

Gonna go find out how to root it now..

you need to root and install a modded YT app with HD over mobile internet.

Everyone needs root!

Have you updated your firmware yet? I've looked around and a few people are saying they're getting constant pop-ups about unauthorized software once rooted again so I'm reluctant to do it.

Here's some pics I took yesterday at a festival in Manchester to give you an idea of how the camera performs in general usage rather than going out and trying to get the best pics possible. Conditions vary from dark indoors to blinding sunlight from all the wrong angles! Miles better than my S2 and a noted improvement on my mates S3 LTE. In fact it performs similar to my digital camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10) in many situations, apart from the zoom and low light.

For those that are waiting for it there's now a recovery that works for the i9505 (i.e. UK S4 variant). Just installed TWRP 2.5 recovery and currently taking a backup to my SD card :)

Great pics ^^^^

Viewing angles are great on the one - almost OLED levels.

Yes black are good for LCD but as you know OLED is on another level.

Its the best LCD I've seen.

Is everyone else finding the camera to be far too zoomed in? I feel like I've got a 50mm prime on my crop DSLR when I actually want a ~24mm on a full frame camera.

The GS 4 has a very small FOV, smaller than the GS 3.

The FOV is further reduced when you enable image stabilisation for video.

@kona Great picture comparison there. Thanks for that :)

It's too close to call between the HO and S4 in terms of viewing angles and colours, however what shocks me the most is the performance of the Z.

It's dreadful

Why on earth did Sony have to spoil a great phone with extremely poor viewing angles and bad screen? They should've kept the Bravia Engine on despite what apps the user runs.

Shame that

Well, that is pants. Getting more and more glad that i am sending this back and getting a ONE.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. I think the camera and the pattern black thing on the back would be the only things I'd change. However the screen is lovely. I can barely take my eyes off it at first. Also the panorama thing is much improved.
