*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

Used the CF-AutoRoot method on the XXUAMDF firmware (standard when it got delivered last weekend). Haven't bothered upgrading to the latest firmware that's being pushed out!

With TWRP and having been rooted this past week I haven't noticed any issues. Everything seems fine :)

Nice one. That's great progress for the S4. I'm pretty sure I'll do mine this weekend when I'm off. Cheers

S4 working great here, there is slight lag out of the box but turning off the silly animations mostly fixes that.

Not rooted yet as there do tend to be able a lot of firmware updates after launch.

Yes that's right was £429 for phone and £22 line rental, but I can pay up the cost of the phone early and they don't charge for the remaining line rental. I received my phone Friday after ordering Wednesday, very happy with it :)

How are you working out £429 for the phone?

Edit : I just rang o2 to ask about the early termination and they said you're liable for the remainder of the phone and the tariff term regardless of when you terminate - even if you've paid off the phone balance (Unless you upgrade to a new handset with them and start a new contract)

Faster home button response:

Samsung's 'S Voice' assistant app has improved considerably on the Galaxy S4. In fact, it's worth revisiting if you dismissed it on earlier devices due to slow performance or hit-and-miss speech recognition. On the other hand, if you're not using S Voice regularly, there's a quick, easy setting change you can perform to make the home key just a little more responsive.

By default, when you double-tap the home key, you'll launch straight into S Voice. That means when you press home, there's a very short pause while the phone waits for a second button press. To avoid this and have the home key immediately send you back to the home screen, you can disable the S Voice shortcut combo. To do this, load S Voice, then press the menu key and hit "Settings." Next, uncheck "Open via the home key." That's it -- with the shortcut combo disabled, the home button should respond immediately as opposed to with a very slight delay.

No worries Dude, you're lucky that you have access to all three phones! Not many people here have that privilege

That's a good summary to make and each of the phones will suit different people, it depends on what the end user is looking for!

Out of interest why did your Brother go for the Xperia Z? Surely with your wealth of knowledge when it comes to mobile phones you might have talked him out of it? LOL :p:D

He really prefered the sleek design of Z - he uses and iP4 currently so atleast that's another win for Android :D

The screen doesn't bother him and other than that it's a pretty good device for non fussy people like us. :p

It's mostly style over substance for my brother lol

Got my S4 arriving tomoz, my sfr contract states I can unlock it for any network after 3 months.
I am coming back to the UK for a wedding next week and have a couple of questions.
A.Is it possible to unlock the S4 yet without paying for the privilege ?
B.What are the risks involved?
Thanks in advance!

Took out a three contract today and even though the s4 is showing a H+ i'm only getting 3mb dl and 1.3 ul thought it would be a lot faster than this??

Same here, see my screen shot earlier in the thread. I'm getting 20mbps on T-Mobile! Who needs LTE!?!

yup who needs 4g , anyone know why its faster on s4 ?

Because it supports DC-HSDPA, basically using more than one connection at once. All the networks support it now :-)

As for the caps, they never admit to it for some strange reason!

T-mobile definitely do cap your speeds. I did a speedtest next to a mate who has the same phone, on the same network and we were in the same location. I got around 11mb download, he got 4mb.

Same here my housemate has an S3 LTE and he can't get more than 4mb!
