FAO Fox: Buying a E39 530i Sport

Looks nice that one - interesting colour and good condition. Oooh blind - at least it has one interesting option :). Doesn't appear to have xenons unless retrofitted - worth checking. Rear diffuser looks to have the removable cutout for the detachable towbar - see if that is present - good bonus if it is. Check the bottom edge of the tailgate in the centre for rust. That's where they start to go (and round the keyhole) and there's a slight sign of something there in the photo - could just be image compression though.

If you get a test drive have the climate control on - eratic fanspeed = need new hedgehog. Burning oil smell coming into cabin when you stop = leaky rocker cover gasket. Check temp dial goes to bang on 12 o clock and stays there. Check no excessive shimmying under moderate braking. Have a little check on the inner lip of the rear arches for signs of rust starting. See if the intensive wash and headlamp wash is working. Inspect the tyre inner edges for excessive wear - sign geometry needs looking at.

I notice it has phone buttons but no cradle in the arm rest - what does that mean, Fox? Bluetooth?

EDIT: Just realised I'm probably too late :)

Oven cleaner Fox--, its totes amaze, my standard SL items were absolutely ruined and they came up amazingly.

Service history is a bit random. The last service appears to be a repeat of the one before it, another Inspection 1. It should have been an Oil Service, the dash will have said Oil Service so I have no idea why you'd do another Inspection 1. This would mean the next service - due in about 3-4k, will be the biggest, an Inspection 2.

It means nothing - all late E39's which had a CD player and therefore a MID but no High OBC had a MID with phone buttons even though there was no phone. Bluetooth fitted cars had a box in the armrest.

It even has a shiney exhuast. Mine has never, ever had one of those no matter how much autosol I use even when it was 4 years old!
Really? Mines nice and shiny. Always has been. Doesn't seem to tarnish.

Not really. The non-xenon projectors are like the e36 ones aren't they, there's a reflector around the outside of the lens and will still blind the heck out of people with an HID fitted.

Projectors made for halogen lamps are not really the same as D2 ones either. I have HIDs fitted in the 300zx and the beam is nowhere near as good as a real HID light. I read it's something to do with the focal length being different.

When I was contemplating breaking the tourer the xenons were the first item to be stripped off but looking into it the kit that is included scattered around the car is immense, how does a retrofit kit work with self levelling?
