seems the dacia duster is outselling quite a few cars including the 3 series up here in jockland

are we about to see a meteoric rise for the Romanian manufacturer? seemingly they shipped 360k cars last year and there are numerous dacia dealerships popping up all over the place. are they the sweathearts of a recession hammered uk or is it another Daewoo bubble ready burst anytime?

Its no surprise cheap cars are selling well, the dacia is supposed to be quite a well put together range, despite the lack of equipment and budget price.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be seen dead in any of them but for a just requiring transport point of view, I can see the appeal.

I see one on the way to work sometimes, I consider getting a pic for the daily encounter page but figured people would laugh

Saw a Sandero and a Duster the other week. Havent seen any Dacias before that or since. The Duster actually looked quite nice externally at least.

Dacia are just Renaults, it is a bit like people buying Skodas's and Seat's instead of VW or Audi's.

They get that them at a cheaper price and money is tight.

Some people just want to get from A to B in a modern car, aren't worried about power, handling or equipment. Cars like these are ideal, and pretty much disposable.

Not Scottish myself, but I am slightly irked by some of the comments in this thread. Is bashing people from other countries when they're not around to defend themselves the done thing here these days?

I'd like to see any of you call a Scot "cheap" to their face.

Scottish protection league has arrived.

I know lots of Scottish people, I lived in Scotland for 8 years, I deal with them almost daily, many Scott's look after what money they have and really watch what they spend.

It's not bashing, it's fact!

It's tongue in cheek fun for some, a bit of a personality issue for others. It's nothing new, or exclusive, and isn't likely to subside anytime soon.

I'm here to defend the Scottish nation, and I think I can just about handle a forum brimmed with these meandering hordes! ;) :p

The stereotype is supposed to be an insult but it's more regional in Scotland, more pointed towards the North East (which suffered historic poverty before ascending to lofty economic heights) but in any event it's not a bad trait to have, being able to look after the pennies.

I do on a fairly regular basis, I also ask him where he's hidden his skag and if he'll make me a deep fried mars bar. Next time I see him I'll tell him that a random non Scottish person is irked on his behalf just for the look of confusion on his face.

I quite like the Dacia cars I've seen. They are a tool to do a job and for people who want that from a car they are great. I seem to remember that the Lada 4x4 used to be quite popular with farmers as they had a half decent 4x4 system and went on for ever.

Are they going to travel down or even foot the bill for me to come up?
