I've never been able to figure out the best option. The people who go for "Half open" are fools (IMO) as that an even more blatant advertisement for thieves.

Move to an area where you don't need to worry about burglaries.

Without permanent local security / massive gates & fences, there is no where in this country where you are safe from burglaries. My parents live in a town with the lowest crime rates in the country, and yet still my Mum caught some travelers trying to break into their house when they thought the house was empty. My parents are ultra security conscious and the house was locked up like Fort Knox.

I leave in approx 8hrs, bit late :(
Leave a small child in your house.

And this mythical place would be?

My house I guess. Left unattended for about 100 days last year, a month of it with a window open and the back doors unlocked :p

Pull the left curtain shut, and leave the right one open. ;)

Usually we just tip the blinds to half shut, but leave the curtains open.
