Audi owners in here!

Is there a reason why you are moving to Audi? You've said quite a few times now that the 3GT is your next car and IIRC its now available to order.
I'd would prefer a 3 GT or Touring but they cost too much on my company car list. A 320d M-Sport Touring is £240 per month, plus any options. The GT isn't available yet and would cost even more due to the expected depreciation (Basing this on the 5 GT). The Audi Technik all in is £150 per month.

I've got a month before I need to order the car, so hopefully by then I'll get sight of the 3 GT costs.

The car is going to be pretty boring whatever I get; sadly petrol engined cars attracted too much tax, even though MPG is pretty good.

True but this is presumably much less than what you currently pay for your 118i - so therefore looking at a 'then and now' situation even going for the more expensive car you'd end up paying less money to run a better car that you'd prefer to have?

£240 a month all in for an insured, taxed and maintained 320d M Sport Touring is by any metric 'epic' :p

I see your point, but for £250 I could get an A6 Avant which is even more tempting. For some reason Audi cars are much cheaper than the equivalent BMW's. The VAG engines are a touch more efficient and the power options better suit a company car driver. i.e Audi 136, 143, 163 and 177 vs BMW 143 (118d) and 180 (320d) and this drives the CO2 output.

I get a 30% discount if I choose a car with a CO2 output less than/equal to 120 and the 320D Touring is above this, so that also affects the overall cost.

Have you seen the new A3 sportback in the showroom yet? :)

I've been looking at one today, very impressed to be honest. A fair amount of room for the back passengers, all the latest tech, roomy interior, and a decent large/deep boot (more so than the 3 door version). Usual array of engines/gearbox options, the 1.6 TDI engine was rated as £0 tax and something daft like <70 mpg. Think it was like £24k?

The problem with the A3 is that by the time you've added stuff which is standard in the A4 like cruise, parking sensors and some other items then it costs the same but for a smaller car.

Very impressed with the low CO2 output of those engines though - 105 for a 150bhp engine.

Waiting for the S3 saloon to make an appearance in my local dealership. Really REALLY want to take one out.

Seems like a good package. Really liking it but I am sure it going to be quite expensive new. :p

There is a article in this months Audi driver mag on both the a3 saloon and s3. I just wonder where it will fit in and whether it will actually sell well enough.

Thoughts on the A4 Avant vs the A5 Sportback - Worth paying a bit more for the curvy A5 look, at the expense of less loading space?

Surely the comparison to make is A4 Saloon or A5 Sportback.

You certainly won't be able to "use" the hatch in the Sportback.

Why is that? IIRC they are the same boot capacity ?
It's not just about capacity. The saloon is useless for me because I can't get the buggy, bikes and other large stuff past the small and tight entry.

The Golf I'm currently using has more boot space than my 1 Series but it's useless because the spare wheel takes away the boot depth so i can't get some stuff in it without removing the parcel shelf.

Sorry, I was just a bit confused by Paradigm's comment

The Avant, for ease of access of bikes etc would definitely be the most sensible choice - A4 saloon versus a5 sportback I would say the a5 has the better (and surprisingly practical) boot size and access

The 1.6 doesn't seem to have that great economy looking at some reports online.

Oh, the other reason for going for the A5.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a must have option but for some reason Audi doesn't let you spec it with the TDIe engine, which is the one I would need to get in the Avant.

The A5 TDI 177 engine has more power and the same CO2 output as the Avant TDIe 163. Clearly something going on with the aero on the Avant that pushes up the CO2.

ACC is amazing; I've just completed a 10 hour round trip to Scotland and I didn't once have to use the accelerator or brake pedal. Just sit back, relax and fire up Real Racing :p

Just bought an 59 plate A4 TDIE 136, anyone else have one of these? Any thoughts good or bad?

Am interested in real MPG figures, picking it up tomorrow, seems owners have reported anywhere from 44 mpg to 58 mpg - shocked at the big difference.

regards,

Matt
