I was thinking about the BBC comedy called Early Doors the other day and about what a brilliant little comedy it is. Only two seasons, written by Craig Cash and is largely in the same vein as The Royle Family but in a pub setting. I really think its brilliant, one of my favourites.

So, what are your most underrated TV shows?

I really enjoyed watching The Adventures Of Brisco County Jnr, starred Bruce Campbell and it was a mix of sci-fi and western.

Early Doors is great.

I think it depends on the generation. Some people at my work haven't seen stuff like Spaced (which in my eyes is an essential comedy series to watch) and everyone in the world should watch Alan Partridge (from The Day Today right through to I'm Alan Partridge). I don't know if they'd be classed as underrated though!

Saxondale - another Coogan classic which is probably considered underrated.

I loved Rubicon, seems no one else did so it's no more :p

I loved Rubicon :)

It got great reviews, and the ratings weren't all *that* bad considering the network - not too far off the ratings for Mad Men on the same network (AMC) at roughly 1.2M series average vs 1.4M for the first series of Mad Men.

It did tell a very complete and self-contained story though. Much as I enjoyed it, I struggled to see how it would progress to further seasons without getting a bit contrived (though, frankly, I thought the same about Homeland to a certain extent and look how that turned out).

I'll throw out some options that are moderately well known so perhaps not underrated as much as random shows nobody has heard of, but worthy of mention:

Murder One
Space: Above and Beyond
Bullseye (everyone thinks it is a good and it is still underrated :D)
Unforgettable (fun in an easy-watching kinda way, if a little formulaic. Really good surround sound)
Elementary (best current TV show IMO)

Todd & The Book of Pure Evil
The Hard Times of RJ Berger

Both are teen comedy type shows, but also gave me quite a few laughs if you accept them for what they are.

Better off Ted

Pretty well known on these forums, but overall most people have never heard of it.

How To Make It In America

Entourage-esque but set in New York. I really enjoyed it, shame it didn't last long.

There's a ****load of Scottish comedy series that have barely or never been shown in the rest of the UK. Limmy's Show, Burnistoun, Still Game just to name three that are all very good. Also, Louis CK's show 'Louie' from the US is pretty damn good and never shown over here.
