Surely that could be said for any competition?

Why does England even go to the FIFA World Cup? I'd be pretty angry if they dropped out of that.

It's not the same as that at all. At least in the World Cup we don't win because many others are better.

Yeah but I mean on the basis that the quality of a song has no bearing on how well it does, what's the point? There's no merit in Eurovision at all.

Everyone always suggests getting someone actually popular to enter for the UK but I think even if a British superstar/band entered, I dunno, Muse, Blur, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Adele, off the top of my head, we still wouldn't win.
