Will we see Nintendo publishing on the PC?

Ok, before you all brand me a cross eyed loon, hear me out.

Many will argue that Nintendo are not who they once were and their slow embrace/adaptation towards anything internet connected has been a major failing of theirs along with their marketing which as of late, appears to be appealing to nobody.

With third party publishers abandoning it because of poor attachments rates, the future is not so clear.

The Nintendo consoles have simply become an expensive way of playing first party content and lost the "cool" factor and "forgiveness" the brand had owing in large part to the "Phat" DS and DS lite.

So, will they "Do a Sega" and do the unthinkable, release their back catalogue on PC and and next gen consoles?

Think of the money?

Only as a last resort, and I think there is a lot more life left in the company before that comes to pass. The ability to play on PC would remove the reason to purchase their hardware.

If this happens, it will be a cold dark day indeed. A company that really shot the gaming industry into a way that made home entertainment systems fun and for the family.

Mario 64 showed us that games could be art. I would hate to see my childhood fall into the market where sega are today with poor games.

Not only would it crush the gaming community but no doubt you would lose some of the greatest talent and thought that have ever been placed into making video games.

Who cares? They suck. The only set of games on a Nintendo console worth playing are the Pokémon games... oh but they are already on PC.

Wii U is a joke, it was ready AGES ago and they delayed it because the Wii was still selling and was more profitable being cheaper hardware. Wii U sales are a joke, and have utterly tanked Wii sales, the software for Wii U is worse(in terms of quantity and graphics quality vs pc's and consoles due within the year) and no one wants to bother.

Wii was a classic hyped up pile of poop but the whole world got caught up in the hype and 10's of millions were sold to people who basically don't use them. Of the usual users who actually loved and used it heavily, seemingly most of them see little reason to upgrade to a Wii U considering it won't offer PS4/xbox whatever level graphics.

Nintendo pushed a console that killed the reason to ever upgrade, then tanked sales by offering an upgraded unit that no one wants. Wii was destroying the xbox and ps3 in sales, Wii U and Wii are now well below ps3 sales and the PS3 is about to be obsolete.

Will Nintendo go the way of Sega, very likely to be honest, they went out and announced to everyone, as I said, with the Wii that the hardware doesn't matter... for a company that sells the hardware, that is insanely stupid and short sighted.

Personally I always saw Wii as a stepping stone console, the usual guys bought it, then the hype machine got into it, telling mums they can lose weight playing games and have the family play together.. bull.

Those guys basically break down into two groups, those who loved it and now feel they want to "step up" to a proper console, and those who didn't use it for more than a couple weeks, and won't buy any consoles again. There is a reason Wii U sales are woeful, because people have Wii's or want the next gen.

Wii was for me a massive massive massive, Apple beating( :o ) marketing success, and a crappy console. The Wii U, well most of the Wii customer base got caught by marketing and know the Wii U isn't a very good console, so won't upgrade to it. If they do upgrade it will be to the next gen consoles.

Never liked Nintendo exclusives. I enjoyed Zelda though as a child but dont think i could get into it now.
All the casual gamers (moms, nanas etc) bought the wii and will stick with it, they dont care for new shiny graphics.

I wonder how many wii's across the world are collecting dust? 70%? 80?

It would definitely be a great shame if it were to happen but I for one would probably buy a lot of their games on PC. I've got a real urge to play the original pikmin again but don't have my gamecube anymore. If it was on PC I'd probably buy it, play it through then buy the second one too

I don't think they'll resort to PC any time soon if at all, as that basically signals the end, as it destroys their console/handheld lineage and unique IP.

The Wii U was a flop, but on the whole it's nowhere near the Sega stage. Sega's core IP games such as Sonic tanked massively to the point of a joke, whereas Mario games are still going strong, as is Zelda and Pokemon (with 3D pokemon coming out later this year). The success of the Wii/3DS is also not that far behind us, whereas the last of the successful Sega consoles was probably the Mega Drive, long before it finally gave up.

Purely my own opinion but I believe Nintendo are stuck in the past and their current management are stuck in the 80s/90s.

Yes, their is a market for their first party games however with third parties not as warm towards 'N' as they once were, justifying a purchase of their hardware is becoming harder, especially when their systems appear to lack expected features for their time of release.

They really do seem to be cupping their ears going "la la la" ignoring what is happening around them.

Look at online play on both the DS and WII, may as well not bothered. Is it any better on the Wii U?

I believe they are also stuck in the past, but they print money with the 3DS, they have no reason to change

Their online 'accounts'/play is a joke yes

Nintendo have always been awkward about embracing what others already have, they only really had a "proper" disc based system with the Wii, don't really know if the gamecube could even count with those tiny gimmicky discs it used.

The wii-u just seems to be a badly thought out turd, another Nintendo system relying on gimmicks. Used to be a fan of their years back but its obvious their systems have just devolved to the point of casual gaming or "party gaming" and the odd decent 1st party title and that's about it.

They're still sitting on a ton of cash so its not as if they're in dire straits, just annoying that their systems these days seem to be centered around gimmicks, and it doesn't seem that with the wii-u that many devs are going to bother their collective arses with it.

I think they don't have the money to develop a AAA console anymore, I think the Wii U has nothing to offer verses what is on current show and what's to come with the next generation.

I can though see them as a handheld console company, but even that market they have is getting eaten into due to smartphones doing a very good job of games now.
