Hey all,

Looking to buy a replacement Nvidia card to use with a new 120hz monitor.

It doesn't have to be high spec because the games I use it for are old (Enemy Territory / RTCW / Quakelive with graphics turned down).

Just wondered what is comparable / the best price to performance card that will still be an upgrade. I can't find the 5770 HD on any benchmark charts anymore due to its age.

Cheers

Not nVidia but my choice would be a 7850 if looking to both improve and keep the cost down - no idea about 120hz monitorness though.

Also that link will allow you to compare what you have with whatever people suggest :)

Edit: A quick look suggests a 7750 or a GTX 650 are both contenders if you don't want to improve performance at all, quite similar prices etc.

I'm just a little surprised at the prices - my 5770 HD 1gb was only £70 2 years ago - have the cards been that small an upgrade since then?

If you don't want to spend much, I would hunt down a 460 maybe even a 470 if the price is right. You should be able to pick one of those up very cheap and it will perform better than the 650 and 5770.

OK many thanks all. It's a shame as I can't really justify a £80 card + a 120hz monitor.
Might try and find a second hand 460/470 as mentioned or wait to see if they hack Lightboost onto AMD.

Cheers!
